This will sooo work. I don't know why they put those silly limits in there in the first place. :3: Nothing at all to do with physics or collision or anything.
You can change the limits. I got a friend to compile a custom mod that raised the maximum map size from +/- 32768 to +/- 65536. The biggest problem in doing this isn't the engine, it's the netcode. Currently the Source engine uses Words (16 bits; 14 bits for the map coords and 2 bits reserved for flags) In order to increase the grid size, you have to tell the Source engine to use Longwords, which gives you 28/4.
I got it to load a ridiculously big map once, but I lost interest and the custom compile tools I had got overwritten by some idiotic SDK update.
First we have to establish that to get anything done in the world there needs to be money involved.
Now that we have that think of this.
Why would Valve do the work to raise the limits and upgrade their engine for no profit. They were generous enough to provide us with a tool to make levels for no profit.
Like I said, the world revolves around money. Once you think like them, you'll understand.
They don't give a shit about what we want.
Haha, what.
Valve: OH HEY! Let's just release a game with no modability and no replay value and we'll ALL BE RICH. They released the tools to get MORE money by people modding THEIR game which gets MORE people to buy their engine to play said game / map with.

You are absolutely right, but making the limits larger wouldn't give them any money since the only maps made that need larger limits are for gmod where they don't make enough profit to benefit.
You're welcome to prove me wrong though
I assume you want invisible walls outside your house so that you can only walk for less then 60 seconds in any direction.
No that is extremely small.
I for one do not like being restricted.
Ok, then... What size would YOU like to see in cubed miles 10, 100, 10000000000000000000000000? Face it, remove certain restrictions and the map would never load. :3

Almost full grid (1024 unit safety cushion all round), note the FPS, nice shadows, HDR etc.

Why do I only see "Click and discover Imageshack" images?

Because you bumped a 5+ year old thread.
And because Imageshack started charging for their service some months ago and don't allow direct linking to their pictures anymore without a paid account.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
