not put any effort into detailing yet but yeah just thought i'd post this.
the experiment area which has a few different functions which are activated by the buttons.

the item maker which spawns my custom items. so far i've only made a timer bomb and a physics explosion bomb. if anyone could make me a shockwave effect with the particle maker, that would be so sweet. the items are made by recycling the matter from physics props. don't mind the rectangle pole, just a quick button.

i know it looks ugly but it's just a start
I'm going to be doing some resurrection/plant thing. As in it revives dead plants and other assorted jumbo that I may add as I see fit.
Looking pretty good there mentality. You might want to consider some more futuristic/clean texturing for the hatch though.

Building is almost complete, work has started on the exteriors. I might add two more buildings with empty lab spaces, for people to build stuff in in-game.
I'll build something, wheres the room VMF for download?

You could make textures or post your ideas.
The mapping community is definitely short a few ideas.

I'm not sure how finished I'll be able to get my lab. I have essentially scrapped my other idea since it'd probably be too hacky to implement into source and the drinks machine is completely untextured and whatnot. If I am unable to find the time to finish it, would you be able to texture and polish it yourself? I'm rather busy as it is.

Would it be okay if I included a .lua file with my lab? It's a really basic .lua script that changes the max HP limit, allowing adding HP through a trigger.
I suppose. I'm currently playtesting my map in Ep2, so I suppose the entity won't work in there. The lua_run entity right?

I assume the map is going to be played in GMod, so the .lua files goes into the lua/autorun/server folder.
I'll be sure to set it up that way then once it's all finished, and spread out.

Damn, that sucks. Looks like I'll have some empty laboratories at the end. It's not too bad, since players can build stuff of their own here.
Maybe I'll just finish up what I have, finalize/optimize the whole thing, then release it, and post updates with filled up labs as I go along.
Hey Sweet, you know how in the OP you said no func_reflective_glass (not exactly, but I know what you ment) and no water because of the PVS stuff.
Well I'm pretty sure you can have func_reflective_glass and water in the same level, as long as they both can't be seen. (area portals and stuff)
I even did a test.

Also, I know how the whole Possible Visible Set works in the Source Engine, but even with area portals a player can look into both labs at the same time due to them being adjacent to one another, having glass fronts with no separation on the balustrade. Area portals work against this, but I'd like for the people downstairs to be able to look into the labs from down below. So yeah, you can have a func_reflective_glass and water both at a different angle within a PVS, but you can't have two of either one if not on the angle their counterpart is on.
So yeah, if you require water, please let me know, and I'll set up a custom lab for it completely smothered in it's own PVS exclusive little club. :3

Also, I'm soon finishing my lab, and the basic lay-out for the building. Once done, I'll make a video of a walk-through, and post it here.

Also, the lab template isn't finished just yet. You can build your machine, as long as you don't build it too large. Template will follow soon.

Something that spawns NPC's/kills them or something that resizes props (or something that gives you illusion of it)

It looks really cool, but I'm not sure how it works exactly. It's a storage device that allows you to send props to another dimension to store them?
To make it work only once, you can put in a trigger in the box volume that - OnStartTouch - by a physics prop, adds one to a math_counter. If the math_counter exceeds 1, then it should not work. OnEndTouch should minus 1, or something like that. Lock the storage button after it is pressed, and unlock it once the release cargo button is pressed.
I'll the Lab06 if it's not taken or any empty lab for that matter.
