Eliteguy the amount of posts you make against me make you despise you even more, if you want to talk about this you can find my steam name to the left of this message, try to stay on topic and don't ruin a perfectly good opportunity to raise money for people.
Can anyone think of a reasonable goal?
Telling the truth doesn't equate to being 'against someone'. We have talked on steam, you got fed up and removed me because even now you still cannot except the truth as it is.
You should know you if this is fake you WILL get caught for scamming through paypal. Please think about it again. And if this is real props to you I guess.
Even if people report your paypal account for fraud it could be too late. He could easily transfer to money to a separate real account. I'm not trying to hate on you, you just seem you can easily fool others by taking advantage of their abilities.

There. I can't touch those amounts now.
We should hold the event, but with multiple people behind it, not just Zapding. I kinda trust him by now, however having multiple in charge is smart just to be sure.
That will look a lot better on a gmod.com news post as well.

Which leaves the other issue - Will anyone watch the map streaming outside of FP? I somehow doubt it
I'd love some extra hands. :v:

I'm willing to help out..

Which is why I asked if anyone knew anyone from other major websites.
make a post on interlopers or something then? shit man I dunno.
If it was international I would help, though Im broke anyways so I dont know how I could contribute.
Would paypal do the USD to GBP conversion for me? If so, I'll probably donate a little.
As for publicity, maybe email Valve and ask them if they can have a news post on this.
Get garry to make a blog post on it on garry.tv, garrysmod.org, contact all the news sites that post stuff on facepunch and see if they can say something about it. Everyone involved in the competition should post it on their facebook / twitter / blog / other social networking sites. We'll just wait and see how much attention this will receive.
So basically a bunch of people will livestream themselves mapping for as long as they can? Im confused on how it raises money and the 24 hour thing. Im sorry for being retarded, its 3:46 in the morning.
I applaud you all for trying, but I don't think anyone would really be interested... Maybe if it was some top-notch mappers dukeing it out in a head to head battle, it might be more entertaining... But having random people just work on their shitty RP maps isn't going to draw people.
I would suggest having an admin of these forums manage the funds, would give this a bit more creditbility.
I still don't understand why a livestream for 24 hours would be good for anything though. Good idea, poor exicution.
Well I guess he is going to try to make it like a tela-thhon. Which alot of those has made a good amount of cash. I remeber awhile ago Comedy Central was doing one and where hosting comedians. So its kinda like that I suppose. If I don't have anything planned I will defintly whatch it and TRY to map.
Yes, but the people on TV are showing the 'final product', not a live feed of them at home thinking of jokes.
How about a live feed of mappers and in-game builders creating stuff in gmod?
Uhhhh, Yes we are going to use livesteam and show the mappers doing it live, thats the whole point of this thread. I guess pepole makeing stuff in GMOD will be a good idea I guess.

I think Oskutin might be in it, if we can get Lamarr or people like that I think we can have something similar.
IIRC there was something like this with TF2 maps?

If anyone wants to help just say "I want to help" in their post.
I'm interested, but, do we have to keep mapping for the full 24 hours?
If this event becomes legit I'll participate. Haven't had a nice drawn out mapping session in a long time, could be pretty fun actually. Depending on the date I might be able to be in this, got a lot of stuff planned for this summer though.
Could you turn it into some kind of mapping relay?
Everyone takes a 12 hour slot and adds some work onto the map, map could be communally shared on dropbox, see if we can make it go for a week or something, release the results to the community with a donation link?
If you're feeling real devilish you could do it like that humble indie bundle.
You pay any amount of money, you get to download the map :D

Although that's a good idea, I am certain that is illegal.

That's a pretty good idea, *** starts, passes to oskutin, then to Lamarr etc.
Me I like that.
[editline]05:14PM[/editline]
We'd need to settle other rules, we could say what the objective is but the contestants couldn't communicate on what they're adding/removing, so each time the map could go from good, bad, better, worse and maybe just into a complete clusterfuck, the outcome would be one to watch, the players can watch the livestream but all contestants must not communicate with the players to insure maximum relay styled play.

It was two fairly high-level mappers (MangyCarFace and Acekimigo I believe) who had X hours to design and map a map. There was no donations or charities involved to my knowledge.

I know there wasn't any donations but still
You got a link to it?

Please not this T_T
From my experience, these things always end up a complete mess or just get discontinued cause someone along the line completely messed it up. As nice an idea you may think it is, mappers working together on a single map very rarely works.
I remember when we were doing the facepunch house.
God that was horrible. I pretty much fixed up everything that the people messed up on. Took me hours. Then the project just stopped.

we're only thinking of using GOOD mappers.
