Zombies in horror maps are good when done well. Mainly if the player doesn't have a weapon; they have to avoid the zombie and get out of the room. The mapper should only use them occasionally though, otherwise it becomes a cheap scare.
The problem for me is that over the past few years, the games market has been flooded with zombie shooters. I'm just not interested in killing zombies anymore.

ive been thinking this for a while now:
you are stuck in some old shack in the middle of the woods.
you hear growling from the distance and a fast zombies shriek.
theres a bunch of cracks on a wall which you can see how close the zombie hoard is.
youll have to get out of the shack and make a break for it in the opposite direction before the zombies completely overwhelm the shack, smashing through windows and the door.
having the players tension grow when they're trying to solve a puzzle or something.
and making it clear theres no chance of fighting them.
or maybe have them chase you through tight spaces, then BAM! a single zombie infront of you, kill it quick before youre surrounded.
Constructive criticism is your friend in an art-related community. Praise is nice too, but more often than not, people post here to get better.
