they're totally perfect in every possible way.
I sure hope that was sarcasm...
i can't even take you serious after this lmao
Well done, I award you a brownie point. 3 brownie points to anybody who can find my secret video!
Show people how to make really cool things, awesome looking things like that dam collapsing or how to make proper 3D skyboxes and how to align them properly. A car going through a wall, env_thrusters, phys_constraint so many things to share with the world of mapping that are just. Awesome.
Yeah, could make a good video. Ironically, my 'Fake DMM' tutorial caused quite a bit of controversy on this forum last year some time.

LOTS OF TEXT [del]I believe he made this thread not trying to troll,[/del] but to maybe improve his tutorials so you guys dont rag on him for it. Yes, the mistakes and errors he told many people, those... are bad. Maybe he will fix them, maybe he wont. I started with Philip's tutorials, but as most people should, they should watch as many tutorials as possible on the certain stuff so you would know for sure that it was the correct/easiest way to do it. I'm kind of rambling here so I'll sum it up for you. Philip your tutorials have the best intentions and that much I know. As ~ZOMG said you are a little arrogant. I think that is why most people don't like you here. That and some of your errors make them rage. I really hope you fix your tutorials or make another one and put way before anything and tell people what they should and shouldn't do. This is how I feel. On a scale of 1-10 your tutorials get a 6.8.
This was painful to read. I understand I'm not greatly equipped to judge here, but seriously - in between trolling and your incessant sarcasm, it's hard to take you seriously at all.
Then don't take me seriously. Love me for what I am.
My god people sure post like crazy here. Hope to see some quality tutorials. What you have had for some time was enough for me start mapping. I have never used carve and I only tested hollow once to copy his tutorial perfectly. I learned my own methods of mapping and I only looked for a few things such as: How to create a brush, how the 3d views work, how to create entities, how to modify light etc. This was very long ago though.

Oh dear god, I hate it when 3kliks posts, always ends up in a mass arguement, I don't hate him or anything, but why does he have to come here and stir shit up :ohdear:
I don't hate him or anything
I refuse to believe that.
Well, hate is such a strong word, I dislike the fellow because he's arrogant, cocky and pretty ignorant...
I don't understand, I come here trying to have a decent conversation and everybody ends up chucking nasty smelling stuff at me, then I go into sarcasm mode and the flames grow higher! It's almost as if you don't want me to make a tutorial series or something. I wouldn't have to if one of you could make a more popular series on youtube, but so far I haven't met anybody else who has been able to keep up with the huge number of questions that entails. What happened to Lord Ned's list of tutorials? Did he give up? I certainly hope he didn't, they were so good...
What, I'm trolling you by being reasonable and trying to sort out our differences?
If you were trying to sort out differences you would've taken my advice on Steam and not removed me. At that point I knew you were not being serious.
Yesterdayyyyy when I was madddd... Darn this thread isn't really about tutorial series, is it ?
If you want to make another tutorial series THEN DO. Dont listen these people even though most of them are right.
Okay i'll set you a challenge. Could you do a tutorial on this? http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/32664 It's the newest addition to the source sdk and for me has proven to be very helpful, i'm sure a lot of people would appreciate a good solid explanation of it's abilities/examples/limits etc etc.
I came here to improve my TUTORIALS and how useful they can be to my target audience, though I see that this forum doesn't need them and because of that everybody gets uber snobby about them. I pick fights with primary school teachers because they're not teaching children advanced algebra. They're clearly RUBBISH teachers because their students aren't as good as those who have been through education to University level!
Better analogy is, the teachers early on are in the wrong if they tell the students to take shortcuts that will confuse them later on.
'If you were trying to sort out differences you would've taken my advice on Steam and not removed me' I doubt I ever had you on Steam, I stopped adding people a long time ago after they'd use me as a personal help desk 24/7, then got abusive when I said I was busy with something. Ask a question on youtube if you need help, I'll answer in my own time. 'Better analogy is, the teachers early on are in the wrong if they tell the students to take shortcuts that will confuse them later on.' Ahhh, so you'd teach the complex stuff first and the basics later? If people get confused about optimisation later on then there's no hope for then when they've just started mapping. You can argue against this all you like but from my experience, teaching the basics first is better.
By all means, teach the basics, but neglecting to teach good practices early on is both damaging to overall mapping quality and misleading as to the difficulty of mapping as a whole. In any case, I think it's perfectly possible to teach the bare essentials and convey good ideals early on. That way you don't have to worry about being a 24/7 help desk when your 'students' actually understand why problems are developing in their maps.

[editline]e[/editline] What am I doing giving a chance again oh I'm completely bored
No, you teach the right thing first and the right thing later. I agree with Offline here.
Why don't you try making a video tutorial series and see how people respond? From what I see, most people on this forum are simply talking out of their backsides. Most of you clearly don't know what is required from a tutorial and would rather argue about something than to actually get on and do something. It's evident that you all have very limited experience when it comes to helping others, and it's just as well I'm here to make tutorials for people!
I'm beginning to doubt whether you're actually capable of writing in continuous prose without slipping into sarcasm, or being arrogant. You can't blame people for anger at what is a very abrasive personality. From what I've seen, your tutorials are actually quite good, definitely useful for beginners. Good luck in your series.
See, you think so highly of yourself, it's wrong, we don't need you to make tutorials, we have places like the VDC, Interlopers and Halfwit-2, most people have learnt more from there, or themselves then they have from you.
If you don't like it why are you doing it, if tutorial making clearly isn't for you? I'm avoiding it to not get all of that attention in the first place. I answer everyone's questions in Steam, and would rather keep it that was so I'm not too tired to answer theirs because of the silly/slow general population of Youtube.
'If you don't like it why are you doing it, if tutorial making clearly isn't for you?' Stop putting words in my mouth. I love helping people with problems, it's why I've kept it up for over two years. I just can't stand the immature, silly people that don't do anything to help but jump at the chance to attack somebody who is trying to help. And I also hate people who think that it's my obligation to add them to Steam and answer every single question every single second of every day. Cough BJK. I give advice for free, but you ask for more than just that. You go off on a personal vendetta against me because I refuse to engage in massive sex-chats via Steam for hours on end every day. I simply don't have time for disrespectful time wasters like yourself and that is why I don't add people to Steam. My youtube account's there for a reason. People seem to lack the common sense to understand that 8000+ subscribers = lots of questions, and it means that I can't personally chat on Steam to everybody when ever they need a question. Maybe if you ever become popular enough you'd understand. Want me to be less arrogant? Stop flaming me with equally arrogant comments. Facepunch, I suggest you reject BJK51 since he's a huge hole in your armour and spews post after post of stupid and totally irrelevant content.
