I'm just saying that it is generally a bad idea to kill the player without telling him what he did wrong.
I haven't played Silent Hill and if I would, it would probably made perfect sense to me why I died. Now it does not.
Play Silent Hill, wierd signs and little traps are part of it. In Silent Hill you have to use your brains and think. Thing are not so clear, you have to think them first.
I think its something on the map compressing, or the engine (The CSS maps is ported on 2006 Source engine) Maybe this helps.
Major Glitches, issue 1.
It would be honestly nice, if Valve would increase the limit.
(People have now a lot more powerful pcs, than back in 2004.)
Now it does pretty much nothing more, than makes people's lifes harder and pisses us off.
II have turned of flashlight, opened the dorr and then, turned on.
About the wheelchair, its in the beginning of the long room, it activates automatically, the best to do is run!
Wheelchair starts to emit static, few seconds before it starts to chase you.
It seems, that static emitting is not loud enough.
I'll add that to the "to do" - list.
Current "to do"-list
- Fix the vertex buffer crashing by reducing the density of func_precipitation (otherworld1)
- replace the tree with missing textures with new one (otherworld_ending)
- Slightly reduce the fog's ending distance (otherworld_ending)
- Increase the sound volume of wheelchair static emitting sound (otherworld1)
Man, i am scary of that wheelchair (i have shoot it with The Orange Box Shotgun of fear) i tried to run but i died.
Man, i am scary of that wheelchair (i have shoot it with The Orange Box Shotgun of fear) i tried to run but i died.
If you are fast enough, you can run to the room in next of the wheelchair, before it starts to move.
You can also run to the another corridor.
I have finished the map.
Good work!
I got that VERTEX_BUFFER_SIZE error, but i lowered my video settings a tad and everything seemed to work.
That fucking wheelchair scared the shit outta me.

Hmm... What video settings you lowered?
Just asking, since that would be a perfect workaround, until i release "The Otherworld" 1.2 on next week.
This map is TRIPPPYYY

Have you played Silent Hill?

I lowered everything to low, anti aliasing to none and anistropic to none
Yet still got that buffer thing.

What? But i play it with high settings and with AA. It works well. Why this bug happens anyway?

Minor Glitches, issue 1.
In short: because Valve has adjusted vertex buffer - limit so low that it makes me wonder, why they added func_precipitation after all.
Dense precipitation is possible, but in sparsely populated areas.
32000 vertice limit is remain from HL2.
It should be increased, if we want to actually use the precipitation.

And if the precipitation or the brush doesn't help I'll give my specs seeing as bickering about it won't help
E5200 Dual Core 2.5GHz @ 3.0 GHz
XFX 9800gt 512mb
4mb RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
I'm able to play this at max 1680x1050 with 16xCSAA, but lowering the graphics did not stop the error from occuring.
I have tied all small brushes / complex brushes in to func_detail.
Looks a bit dead space-ish
Yeah, but it's from Silent Hill. Play it. Best horror game ever. I mean, best horror game series ever.

Killer89, do you see what I'm saying now? It did not chase me, I just ran and jumped into it and died. Does that make sense? The wheelchair did not move, at all.

The problem is, you're running and jumping into it. Don't do that. Go near it but not on it, and you'll see it move before it kills you. I did the same thing at first, it kind of killed the mood not knowing if it was a bug.

That's my point
Played it in GMOD. Awesome map, but story feels too short.

I shot at it and it moved towards me.
I shot at it and it moved towards me.
My dog does that....
Scary :v
Wow man this looks creepy as hell.
I think I shit myself at a couple places in the map. Amazing work on the horror aspect.
Oh, and yes, that wheelchair hissing needs to be louder.
that wheelchair hissing needs to be louder.
I fully agree with you on this.
Actually, i'm currently increasing the sound volume as we speak.
Ps. I would still need help with HL2 Beta kid's (blond one) bones. (I need someone to remake them, since current ones are so bad that they cause a crash, when the model is spawned in hammer.)
Update
Vertex - crashing seems to be fixed now.
I still won't recommend to noclip to outside of the map, though. (just in case.)
The fix is incuded in 1.2, that will be released on next week.
HL2 beta kids?
Oh god don't put kids in the map, little kids are so scary.
I'm allready shitting myself.

I am still crashing from Vertex Buffer Size, and I downloaded it again from that link at the OP.

1.2 is not released yet.
As i have stated previously, i will release it on next week.
