I thought it was cool, but there are a ton of glitches that need to be fixed. The doors don't always transport you to the other side. Not enough health. When the floor breaks, you can potentially die from hitting the floor before going to the next map. The wheelchair kills you when you touch it. The transitions between the cutscenes and actual gameplay are not smooth. I liked the concept, but the glitches kinda ruined it.
1.2 is not released yet. As i have stated previously, i will release it on next week.
Ah, I see. Well I guess I want to try this map badly :v:
Ah, I see. Well I guess I want to try this map badly :v:
I have now taken a more aggressive way to fix the vertex-crashing. It's now possible to get the crash only, when you noclip to outside of the map. I'll upload 1.2 on either this friday or saturday. Current changelog: - Fixed vertex crashing - Increased the static emitting sound volume, that plays before wheelchair starts to move - Slightly tweaked the wheelchair - trigger (rushing on the wheelchair before it starts to move is now fixed) - Fixed the room switching - teleport angles - Fixed a problem, where player is invincible after the level change (otherworld1 > otherworld2) - Tweaked the ending - small fixes / additions/ optimizations
No luck today?, perhaps tomorrow?
No luck today?, perhaps tomorrow?
Sunday. I'm on work tomorrow.
haha heya
You should make more maps like this, this is awesome!
"The Otherworld" 1.2 is now out. You can grab it from the first post's link. Changelog: - Fixed vertex crashing - Increased the static emitting sound volume, that plays before wheelchair starts to move - Slightly tweaked the wheelchair - trigger (rushing on the wheelchair before it starts to move is now fixed) - Fixed a problem, where player is invincible after the level change (otherworld1 > otherworld2) - HUD is hidden, while player switches the room - Small tweakings to the apartments's ladder (floor2 > floor1 and vice versa - switch) - Tweaked the ending - small fixes / additions/ optimizations
It still crashes in the spawn room for me, I just look around with the flashlight and it dies. I also saw that all the trees were checkerboarded.

(missing tree-texture problem used to appear in pre-release of 1.1)
It was Ep2, and it was 1.2. All new files were extracted to replace the old ones. Otherwise, there were no other crashes from the flashlight anywhere in the map.
Cool. [editline]09:12PM[/editline] Gah, It's no use, even after downloading the updated version I still get the vertex buffer error.
It still crashes in the spawn room for me, I just look around with the flashlight and it dies. I also saw that all the trees were checkerboarded.
Give a try, and try to play with medium - shadow setting. Lets see, if that helps anything.
Realized I had deleted the maps. I went to go download it again, and I noticed in the changelog the invincible fix. Oddly enough, I was invincible there too. What's strange is I redownloaded the map after 1.2 was released and replaced the old ones, yet that still happened.

I'm honestly running out of ideas, why the fixes wont work on others. Missing tree texture - problem is even more annoying, since those trees are HL2-trees. Other: I have found a better custom content embedding - tool called packbsp, so i'm using it for now on. (pakrat was honestly a nightmare, what comes to custom texture / model texture - embedding)
I will finish this level only using flashlight SWEP (For more Silent Hill Pleasure). Maybe i will make a video.
That was the scariest map I have ever played. But what I don't get is, why after you kill the Antlion Guard do you suddenly go to what appears to be a car crash?
That was the scariest map I have ever played. Next, a crashed car that burns. If you have played Silent Hills, you can do the rest of the math.
This shit is way too scary for me :(
Hmm.. I'd really like to try this map, but everytime I try and open the .7z file I get an error saying "The archive is either an unknown format or damaged". Tried it with WinRAR and 7-zip. same thing on both, any ideas?
Try to download it again.
Try to download it again.
Tried, same thing again. Short of somone sending me the contents of the .7z file I really have no clue what to do.. or what is even wrong with the file/my computer...
I did what u suggested about the shadows, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The map was amazing, though quite breif. and the only issues i had were with missing textures, some shelves and the trees in the ending were purple and checkered, great map can't wait for the next update!
This map is epic, The last part really creeped me out! :tubular:

It's way more reliabe than pakrat. Expect to see 1.3 on next week. I'll focus on bug fixing and missing textures, before i start to add new stuff in it.
I'm now using packbsp for content embedding. It's way more reliabe than pakrat. Expect to see 1.3 on next week.
sweet, if i can help with anything let me know
sweet, if i can help with anything let me know
Thanks. I've been a bit busy with other stuff, so there is a tiny chance, that i can't release "The Otherworld" 1.3 on this week. (Remember though, that this is one man show.) I'll try to get 1.3 ready on this week, and upload it on sunday, though.
I've been making a remake of my first map, "otherworld", for a while now. Now that map(s) is stable and pretty much bug free, i can feel free to release the it. The package contains 3 maps: otherworld1, otherworld2 and otherworld_ending. It's probably needless to tell the playing order. I'd like to highlight, that "The Otherworld" is specifically designed for Half-Life 2: Episode Two (works also in gmod, though), and it's single player only. Have fun, and report problems, if you encounter any. (You shouldn't encounter, but well... shit happens) Download link (Current version: 1.2): http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/119021 Ps. Remember, that you can change the difficulty from the options. (EP2 - only)
This map is made of sheer win. Good job dude.
where is 1.3 ):
where is 1.3 ):
I encountered some problems, so i had to delay the release a bit. I might be able to upload 1.3 on Monday. Cheers.
