I dont want to roll out 1.3, until it actually works.
Therefore, i'll keep my mouth shut about 1.3's release date, until i get it to actually work.

Yeah, uh... Still get a vertex crash. Absolutely fresh install of both EP2 and the latest revision of this map. The "waking up" sequence still doesn't complete either, it just spins a little and snaps to the symbol on the wall.

waking up - bug is totally new to me.
I'll take a look of that on next week.
Also about that vertex crashing... Do you get it on the beginning or in other spot?
Vertex crashing didn't happen, the textures all work except for the trees at the end. I noticed the peephole for the first time :D

For the wakeup bug, I might be able to take an Xfire video or something. I actually had that issue with 1.1 but assumed you knew about it. Vertex crash is at the beginning. I think I can look around with the light on without a problem until I pick up the crowbar.

Vertex-crashing is honestly quite odd.
I have fixed it for sure, but some people still get it.
Currently the only known fix (that actually helps) is to turn shadow quality to low / medium.
(wont cast a dynamic shadow.)
I worked out with "the otherworld"'s teleports, and fixed few other problems.
"The otherworld" 1.4 will be out in around 2 weeks. (I can keep the promise this time, honestly.)
Current changelog of 1.4:
- Fixed teleporter angles
- Optimized interiors of apartment

The reason why no one else havent made anything similar in source is most likely the architecture of the otherworld.
It's covered in darkness but i assure you, that it's complex and a bit challenging to optimize properly.

It has some stuff, that makes it a crappy gmod map (multiple players, posing, etc.).
Also Episode 2 has different, and better, lighting than GMod.

I can't upload "the otherworld" 1.4 to fpsbanana, since the site seems to have some problems with profile editing (changes wont save, affects also to map updating).

From what I've seen your map is amazing as an "artwork" point of view. Look at nightmare house, little combat but lots of scares.
I say its both,fair and unfair. Its not that bad that it lacks enemies and "Extreme combat", but it wasnt exactly an "artwork". My friend said that this is a Silent Hill rip-off.
