That's massive, dude. I really can't wait until this gets released. Good luck!
this has been going since the 13th of november lol. He will be done soon.
Make sure you put some jeeps in there. people will get bored from the travel time in such a big map.
That map should be 100-500 mb.
That map should be 100-500 mb.
I don't think it will exceed 200 mb. :P Edit:
Make sure you put some jeeps in there. people will get bored from the travel time in such a big map.
You can just spawn jeeps yourself.
In$ane is back! cool.
WILL THE EPICNESS EVER END!?!?!
A Grand Canyon would be cool. With a long river along the bottom and multiple cliff-side paths down to the bottom. And an Indiana Jones style cave with a gold something at the end. If you pick it up, a giant boulder starts rolling after you. Complete with pressure pads and dart traps throughout the tunnel. Is any of that even possible on a map this big?

Besides, a rolling boulder is overdone, has to be respawned etc. And you'd have to model (or displace alot) the hallway where the boulder rolls through.
any updates insane? this map looks great! when can we look for a release date?
This map reminds me of the ocarina of time.
any updates insane? this map looks great! when can we look for a release date?
Nothing visualy big changes, but what i am doing is fixing a lot of texturing on a particulary complex part of the map, so the textures appair to fade over eachother instead of cuts.
That would be ironic if In$ane spent all this time making the largest map attempted and just as he finishes, Hammer's maximum area is increased. I can't wait for the map.
That would be ironic if In$ane spent all this time making the largest map attempted and just as he finishes, Hammer's maximum area is increased. I can't wait for the map.
It won't increase. And if it VALVe decided to increase it, so what? It's still epic.
this will be amazing for role play. Do not stop making it
ehh.. are you going to update this, or don't you work on this anymore? Please get this finished!
It won't increase. And if it VALVe decided to increase it, so what? It's still epic.
I think that I heard the map size will be increased when episode 2 comes out. If it is increased, Garry will have to merge the Gmod code with episode 2 to get the increased grid space.
This map looks alot like the game Age of Time.
Actualy in a way, it's a good thing that we're not hearing from him. Because that most likely means that he's working on the map and not wasting time updating us on the map. Which i'm kind of disapointed in. Oh yah, and episode 2 of what?
I think that I heard the map size will be increased when episode 2 comes out. If it is increased, Garry will have to merge the Gmod code with episode 2 to get the increased grid space.
It won't. VALVe improved the engine in another way: Every VALVe map is rather tube-like, it hasn't got alot of very open spaces. That's why most maps that are custom made lag as hell (such as Freespace). And that's what fun_occluders and func_areaportals are for. What VALVe did with the Ep.2 engine is make it so that the engine can render open areas more easily. And that is even better than a bigger grid, and even more for this map. ;)
I don't think it will exceed 200 mb. :P
I have know HUGE maps with all custom content that wasn't bigger than 80 Mb so I don't even think you'll get close to 200MB :D.
Oh. I was just wondering because once the maximum area is expanded enough, all the space maps won't just be a flat piece of land in a ball. By "In a way it's a good thing that In$ane isn't updating the thread." I didn't mean that we all should stop posting on the thread.
INSANE,hows the map coming?
That's the spirit!
Me like! Me like alot! Keep up the good work! :keke:
Not regarding my last posts, I hope In$ane updates us soon with like completion percentages.
Not regarding my last posts, I hope In$ane updates us soon with like completion percentages.
Yeah, I hope that too! :)
In$ane, is it possible to do what they did in Half-life and have a huge map divided in two and once a player crosses the edge of part 1 of the map, part 2 automaticaly loads in seconds? I'm asking this in reguards for this map.http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=354468 I've been helping out with it and the map is going to contain an impossible amount of objects and entities.
Epicer and epicer... Idea: Little-league baseball field somewhere!
Oh yah, and episode 2 of what?
Think about it, what are pretty much the only two games that get modded the most for on steam? Counter-Strike and Half Life 2. Half Life 2 came out with a another game called Half Life 2 episode 1. See what I'm saying?
