Make some sort of Wurm-type gamemode to go along with it.
Quest map? Like in Oblivion, you have to do a big quest/quests.
Quest map? Like in Oblivion, you have to do a big quest/quests.
Quests would ruin it for people that want to use it in their own RPs or even for construction.
This Looks Awesome What the name?
I just have started on my bigggest map project ever, i plan to release it when GMOD10 comes out. The idea is a world that fills the entire hammer editor, it will have a lot of stuff to visit (imagine the Zelda games without loading). I would be thankfull if anyone want to come with some great suggestion to what i can add into this map. The method i have chosen to do is to draw a 4096x4096 texture (and adding detail shader) that i will expand over the entire editor on a terrain surface and form it, the same method used in games with huge terrain like Planetside, World of Warcraft etc. Here is a simple sketch i have made, so you have an idea how it might look. The green dots are trees. :P Remember this drawing is not how the actual thing will look like, so come with suggestions!
Since it's not out yet, when will it be finished?
Quests would ruin it for people that want to use it in their own RPs or even for construction.
I don't care, he said come with suggestions, so I came with a suggestion. :eng101:
I don't care, he said come with suggestions, so I came with a suggestion. :eng101:
He also said,
won't any idiot stuff in it, i want it pure and nice. I will not ruin it with junk. The map will be clean of junk and stuff like that which people don't want etc.
Fair point, 'cept
Fair point, 'cept
... 'cept what...? Also, In$sane, could you upload the .vmf of this if you finish in case anyone does want to add quests add stuff?
Since it's not out yet, when will it be finished?
When it's done, i will never set any deadline for any project ever again. The deadline just never makes it. :P There is huge amount of work needed to make this map. it can take many weeks atleast. Edit:
... 'cept what...? I'm gonna put BSP decompiling protection in it.
No, i will not allow anyone to edit the map. I'm gonna put BSP decompiling protection in it.
Well at least that will keep the inexperienced mappers out, but some of us know how to defeat even the prefab, not to say I will do it or anything. I had to put massive decompile protection on DM-Deck16][ because I couldn't count how many PMs I got from people that wanted the source to it.
It will keep the inexperienced people from decompiling it, but the experienced people shouldn't even have interest in modifiding the map. Because experienced mappers like to make original stuff i'm pretty sure of. Atleast i am.
I've been mapping since 1997, and still after all of these years I can never get any inspiration for a new map. Any little idea that I get usually ends up half way done, then I realize it was bad and it sits on my hard drive for eternity. I probably have 4 CDs and 2 DVDs just for HL stuff, and other drives for older engines like Build, Unreal and Quake.
Make lions, and cars to jump into with windows to roll up incase of lion attacks. Rawr, bitch.
If he starts counting down in Valve Time, we're all fucked. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time
Hmm, seems like a really good map so far can't wait. :D
any updates?
any updates?
Erm not much interesting, i have started constructing the 3D mountain crap that will seperate areas in the map, like this: Picture is from Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Why'd you post a screenshot from Zelda?
Why'd you post a screenshot from Zelda?
To show how it looks like with the hills blocking of "black space"
You give me a dumb, yet what you had before you edited just said "Erm not much interesting, i have started constructing the 3D mountain crap that will seperate areas in the map" And then you posted the image. Thanks, that was a really well deserved rating.
How is this going to work. The map is so big that it would take atleast more than 10 minutes to run across it. This is better off as a seperate mod than a huge map.

I regret that i rated you dumb when i realised i took things a little to much for granted. :\
Insane you need to finish this.... I would love you forever.. Just don't make it modern please. Me and a Friend you all might know are making a gamemode this would be totally rad for if you keep it low on the modernization of buildings and such.... or you know wat fuck it your doing great if you need any help from a noob let me know...haha. Oh by the way how are you making this? In 3d Studio max perhaps? Just curious I want to make a map and you look pro, so i though I would ask.
He is making it in hammer, which is the map creator/editor that comes along with the source SDK. Open steam and click the tools tab, just double click to download.
Make more foilage, And it would be a good idea to make it a Little bit bigger if you want an adventure map.
Make more foilage, And it would be a good idea to make it a Little bit bigger if you want an adventure map.
I don't think bigger is needed. Besides he already has the displacements and stuff there.
Make more foilage, And it would be a good idea to make it a Little bit bigger if you want an adventure map.
He's already pushing Source engine to it's limits. There's no way he could run the map or even compile it if it was any bigger.
Hey, the map, it's super cool
