I had problems with studiomdl.exe too, but I got it working using notepad++ and the nppexec plugin to compile. For ep2 I used the following command:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\bin\studiomdl.exe" -nop4 -game "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\ep2" -r "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"

That really reminds me of one of the meth labs in Breaking Bad for some reason.
Should totally remake the meth lab, yeah i'll do that when I have the time if someone hasn't done it yet.

The superlab was kind of the inspiration but then I had this other vague image in my head of an underground facility from something I saw probably in this thread a long time ago, so the two kinda had sex and that map is the result of the miscarriage :v:
I don't know what the fuck i'm doing but heres my WIP on the 3D Skybox of the Zibatower. Currently i'm having the problem that everything is at the same level with my Map while I actually need the effect of the Building being sky high. I'm bad with 3D skyboxes sorry. If someone can offer help or give me some tips much appreciated.

The 3D skybox must start where your playable level ends.
The easiest way to create a 3D skybox would be to take only the world geometry of your map and copy it into a 3D skybox and visgroup them.
Then create the rest of the 3D skybox.

Raise the sky_camera up. Remember that the sky_camera in the skybox corresponds to 0 0 0, so make sure your map is centred there and that the camera is sufficiently high enough in the skybox to look high up.

I really like it! I haven't seen something like this before really. It looks really good for being made in sucgh a short time. Though I would suggest that if you expand on it you don't use flat planes for the trees or buildings, and actual models with volume in that style.

looks way too foggy. i noticed that in the original the fog starts quite further, cus you can see the city pretty clear, but it becomes thick very fast

also it doesnt look very constant so i would encourage you to use smoke volumes
The smokevolumes don't seem to scale with the 3D skybox entity's scale. it's lagging badly when I try to remake that effect with them (I have to use a faily high particle draw width):(
did you consider making a particle system?
Well that would be an option , however i never did one but i will look into tutorials .

I'm loving those rorschach-esque patterns on the stone texture of the vertical faces. I really like the idea you have going here!
I got a burning question here.
I started with a new map for a custom, private minigame and did some modifications.

Due to the fact that the fan was hanging kinda low, I raised the whole fan up, resulting the canopy of the model itself to be in the beams, so I placed a canopy model of a regular light.
Does this make sense like this?

Quick mockup I made for mykonos (excuse the lack of AA)
Made all the props and materials myself, and maybe if I don't finish the map I can release and let other people use. Keep in mind not everything is final.

Well considering both maps are based off the same location then yeah it does look like unleashed.
