I've never made a FINISHED map before. Once I start working on something, it all goes well until I work on it for about 7 hours straight and end up trashing it. When I then feel like mapping again, for whatever reason I don't pick up the previously trashed map but start making an entirely new project instead, continuing a neverending cycle. It's been months since I've even touched Hammer now.
I opened Portal 2 Authoring tools for the first time and I wanted to test out the lighting, and I came out with this:

Have been progressing very well in the past week, having me finish the basement, kitchen (partially), etc etc leaving me to the upper floors. However, as soon as I compile I get a door which is lit really weird.

What could be the cause of this? I tried compiling in full compile, nothing.

I'm really confused on what's going on outside. Use an actual skybox texture instead of that pure white.
You can enter "mat_specular 0" in the console to temporarily disable cubemap usage for yourself.
I've tried adding lighting to my maps, but none of them work. My friends on steam say that lighting works but for some odd reason it doesn't load on my computer. Valve maps work, but my maps don't.
(Yes, nothing is off when compiling)

you might be stuck in mat_fullbright 1 mode, but it should do it for all maps (including valve) and not just yours. Post your compile log in the mapping questions thread and we can help you out.
I've turned off mat_fullbright, but yeah, ill post my compile log over there.

I like the idea but wheres the debris on the floor came from? did they design the building like that? or the ceiling is broken?but I Can't tell because of the angle,

It is a skybox texture, it just looks so pure white because I rendered in HDR, right now I'm using sky_day01_01_hdr as texture. I'll try to build cubemaps and see what happens.

Time to make a subway train map that GMOD deserves. The tunnels with misaligned textures will be replaced by correct tunnels later in the development.

First thing i do is crushing npcs with the trains :V
I added supports to the ceiling. It look way more realistic.

Yeah it is a part of the Old aperture I am building.
I try to rebuild Aperture Science my way. No empty endless void BTS and more realistically architectural design. For instance I made the Old aperture starting at the surface instead of underground. ( I don't see how they could start building the facility underground without surface access point)
