also I quite like the look of that but I think the lighting should be a bit brighter still
How would you fine gents go about a 3D skybox in a city? My level is set atop a skyscraper (changed from forest after advisement), and my 3D skybox right now is a series of rectangles and oddly shaped buildings :(

Sounds like your off to a good start, working with the scale of a skybox can be a pain sometimes though I would recommend looking at the textures under the search terms "building" they are useful for skyboxes think they are from CSS though not sure or hl2 that's my option for your best bet.
Use a method in your skybox they goes the first buildings are detailed then behind those they are less and then less after that also try making small buildings.
After a short break I am back working on the structural design.
I try to make it as realistic as possible using models and a little bit of brushwork.
The entire structure is about 1240 unit tall. ( not counting the arch window )

Looks really nice, the composition is great. Anyway, why are there concrete/plaster walls on a spaceship? I'm not saying you should turn it into a generic greeble filled metal plate hell, but maybe consider something more fitting.
i got hungover and woke up at 4am naked (???) so I made a racetrack

there's going to be at least 2 tracks in the map cause it doesn't really take up alot of space, you know like a race park
Wow, awesome. How the hell do you do this? Just alot of arches or what? I kinda hope you found out how to drag them easily

They're sheetrock panels?
They're sheetrock panels?
I pondered about that for a moment but the texture really looks more like concrete than speckled and painted sheetrock.

I think that the materials aren't that realistic, the metal grating needs some decent specular and then it won't look like TF2. I can't stand cartoon games in Source; it's just... euggh sickening to me. It feels wrong.
Sorry for uncompiled shot, but here's interchange i made:

Wouldn't you be better off with models for that?

Yeah, if you're a pussy
select it, ctrl-shift-w, f9, go

It's portal2 texture.
Yeah, if you're a pussy
and you want to spend 100 brushes just on one interchange which would be more expensive to render than a model anyways.
What's it supposed to be?
Some sort of industrial train docking station for the importation of materials of the old Aperture Science.
Most of it is underground but the rooftop is the surface.

Updated. I added a roof, Looks better now.
Made a little mini park:

Needs work, like trees benches and bumpy lands and maybe a little pond.
The same place from my map, but with specular mapping enabled. The floor, ceiling and wall tiles are from metal, not concrete or plaster. :p
Also, since it's a section where is the crew supposed to live, most of the walls are covered by metal panels, with machinery, utillities and insulation hidden behind it.
Beyond that are unpressurized maintenace spaces, protected by a thick metal shell of the spaceship (along with protection against radiation and high velocity objects)

Maybe this place looks more like a spaceship. It's from the maintenance / engineering portion of the ship (Floor 01), but still isn't detailed, as it's quite heavily WIP.

I don't really undertand that square "rp_downtown" park design.
Added some detail.

It also needs way more exits.

Fence could really use some work the hl2 metal bar texture looks terrible. I would advise taking the time to learn blender so you can make a prop replacement for things like that.

Look what i just found.
An artifact from the ancient times :v:
Nice to see somebody working on it.
Decided to go super dystopian alternate-reality with this map. Good idea or no? :v:

Reminds me of First World Bank in Payday 1,
I was working on a recreation of the Watchdogs mission in payday 2 but had to shelve it for now due to IRL stuff

REALLY buggy jetpack thing (ie. it likes to randomly stop working and send you plummeting to your death):

It's supposed to fire timed AR2 grenades that explode in the air, but the game keeps crashing when they explode. It's going to take a bit more fiddling to hopefully make it work, else I'll have to remove the exploding part and just have it fire AR2 grenade models like really big bullets.

the walls in the first pic definitely need some seams like the second pic or maybe metal brackets or something?
it still looks like plaster, just shiny now :v:

I find this hilarious, and personally I think it'd be fun to play in (though I'd never be able to take it seriously), but I can see how a lot of people would take leaps and bounds to interpret this completely opposite of how you'd hope.
