better textures!
On the corner of the road that texture looks very low res. Other than that, nice map.

Looks great! Reminds me of something slightly neo futuristic like Infamous Second Son.

my graphics are just set to low, this laptop from 2012 apparently can't handle it

smoothing groups, not even once
smoothing groups, not even once
i have actually never used those
I don't think those corners were meant to be round
smoothing groups, not even once
I think it would look weird for a building of that style to have a smooth round edge
Round pillars wouldn't suit the style and size of the building. Especially since its now brickwork. Cylinders would probably look crap with brickwork on.

well the smoothing didn't work at all
I think it looks fine
Question; since SourceSDK has been broken, how the hell do you guys upload custom materials into hammer?
I'm running on Half Life 2 configuration and putting custom materials in half-life 2/hl2/materials doesn't work.

oh yeah and of course everything has an interior!
this map is exclusive to my upcoming server, you're going to be able to buy furniture and permanently save them in your apartment!

I take it its an RP based server then? What framework are you using?

I assume you are using:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\username\half-life 2\hl2\materials
and not:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\materials
The files in your username folder aren't used by valve anymore.

DarkRP isn't a great base but it gets players in and I'm sure if you're using all those features and that great looking map then it will go great for you. I look forward to seeing more screenshots!

Thanks, I'll give that a whirl.

Well they're in the materials browser now but they are all showing up as texture errors both in the browser and when I place them. Any fix for this?
Check .vtf paths in the .vmt's

Don't mean to sound like a noob here but how exactly do I do that?
Don't mean to sound like a noob here but how exactly do I do that?
Open VMT's with notepad or notepad++, check $basetexture
Prepping the tables to start working on a casino map. I'll be propper'ing all of them once I finish up with the rest of the tables.

I'm assuming you are trying to place them in \hl2\custom\custom\materials? I'm pretty sure that is were they go and it works for me.

u wot m8, those sharp corners clearly coud look better with a little smoothing, not saying it has to be smooth to the point where you can say that the pillar is round

how would i even apply it? i selected them and put smoothing 1 on, and it looked worse

Change the sun angles so that its not pointing straight down, casting almost no shadows

Well that is bad tutorial, too tight lanes and curves.

Heres some examples of mine for roads and interchanges.

Well you don't just go straight for the lowest number try starting at 16 and going in increments of 2 till you find what you like.

I thought that the smoothing group number meant nothing?

I'm no architect, but in my experience bathrooms don't usually have windows that big or that see-through.
I thought that the smoothing group number meant nothing?
Smoothing groups work, they're just rarely used (probably because there isn't any way to tell if faces need smoothing in hammer).
