Finishing this roman map up for a competition

I love what you did with the columns. Are you purposely going with the octagonal (as far as I can tell) shape?
I think one of the mappers (can't remember who, exactly) who worked on gm_gmall made a Hobby Shop with some models like the ones you're looking for. If you're able to find who it is, you might be able to ask them about using the models.
I remember my buddy was telling me about him. I'll have to look more into it and see what comes up. I've also been thinking I could make buildings and the like by making smaller brushes and texturing them like buildings. Considering the scale of the model railroad I've got planned (HO for you model buffs), the lack of detail could be forgivable.
Speaking of Garage, this is what I got so far. I've been thinking about adding in a window somewhere and other times I tell myself not to. Any thoughts?

Yeah unless I should do something different?

Oh this reminds me a little of an old project I did for my Latin class! I recreated an ancient Roman Villa.

Could I use some of your mural textures?
I began building little model buildings for my model-within-a-model out of brushes. I based them off of real model buildings I've got and the layout itself is based on my dad's old layout. I'm still thinking on fixing the terrain/displacement so I can make little model roads and stuff. I'm not sure how I'm gonna handle the miniature train tracks, though.
But here's what I got so far. The big grey looking thing is based on a model coal mine I got.

Nah, it looks good. I think you should add some stone pines if you have or can find a model

Dayum, these textures are ace. Is it just skill or the roman architecture automatically means sexy textures?
I got around to doing some texturing and the like for my model-within-a-model. I'm not too keen on it since I couldn't find a good blend that imitates asphalt But it'll do for now.

There are some train skybox models in TF2 it could look nice, even if it's just simple circle of rails
Could I use some of your mural textures?
I lost the files awhile ago lol
I'm sure you could make them if you just Googled "ancient roman mosaic" or something along those lines

About how big different are they to CS:GO, style-wise? I know TF2 looks like something out of the Incredibles or something, but I can't recall what the trains were like.

I've been trying stuff like that on and off for quite some time, Skybox models could help if you don't mind a larger scale.

I could try skybox models if I had the TF2 models to begin with. But yeah, those don't look half bad. I'd appreciate the help if you've got the time! I've got some questions, though:
a) What scale would you approximate it to be? At first glance I would guess G or O scale.
b) Would it be possible to retexture the train cars to parody a real life railroad, or alternatively, make multiple retextures for a hobby shop display?
c) Does the track always have to be a constant circle or can you make it into any direction you choose?

What kind of barriers are in place on the edge of the map?
What kind of barriers are in place on the edge of the map?
fences + playerclip and buildings
none of the skybox borders are accessible

Ok, this is the updated version of my Terrible Flappy Source.
1. I added an invisible wall at the beginning to keep the ball from flying at full speed every time you mess up
2. I fixed the button, 100% thanks to Magman77. (It still has a tiny unusable period but it isn't substantial)
3. Spread the pipes further and turned down the speed
And I know the lighting and colors look terrible, (as well as being in 360p despite being rendered at 720p at 59 fps) but I promise they don't actually look that bad. Vegas was rendering my videos really horribly and that was the best I could do after 3 hours of rendering, switching settings, etc.

a) They're skybox models, so the scale is approximately 1/16. Approximately because TF2 and CS:GO use a bit different scales and Valve games never had the most strictest of scaling between different props even within the same game.
b) Would be, the box cars at least two skins slots.
c) You can make it as you wish, as you see Callinstead's second picture the circle is made out of small individual straight track pieces.

What texture are you using for the brick?

I can't seem to get rid of the poly seams, oh well. Guess what its from.
Oh and

This was a map to simply test some props that use vertex colouring instead of textures.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon!! Man I love those games
Back again with another update on my Western town. Its been a week since I last posted screenshots and since then I have built more buildings and gotten a layout for the map. Enjoy!
Here is an album with the pictures if they are not loading http://imgur.com/a/Crfdx

I think the interior could use some work, but the exteriors are lovely.

Try different textures for the interior and detail the walls a bit, the textures repeat a lot from the inside
I think it needs more pillars and internal wall beams to show structural support inside.
I think it needs more pillars and internal wall beams to show structural support inside.
Same here, try something like this
As for decorations, check out this
So with the possibility of having actual model trains, albeit much bigger, I redesigned the model railroad-within a model. It's gonna be bare plywood so it's like whoever owns the house is in the middle of making it, so there would be a lot of track, tools, beer bottles, etc. out. I also added a fridge and toolbox because it's a garage, and a filing cabinet because I use those to keep my models organized.
