i put too much detail into this alpha and now im not gonna want to delete it when i find out it sucks for gameplay

Since I actually posted a pic of the compiled disaster I'm calling done on my former statement to not post again until compiled. So, before I go naptimes, here's an uncompiled pic.
Recompiled every single model, made a few more, and fixed all the causes of the related lighting errors. This was after I deleted the entire curtain wall in a hissy ragequit because it wasn't curvy and detailed enough. Entirely new architecture scheduled for the corner towers.

Google search shows surprisingly few images, but those it shows look good. My concern would be the architecture I used not really fitting the textures from Ortel... If you were to go to the effort of sending me them I'd certainly go to the effort of seeing how they looked.
I will confess I quite like the colour scheme going on at the moment, but I recognise I made it so perhaps it's not the fairest of judgements.

Looks really nice. Gmod needs more cool, functional boats that aren't the Airboat.
What do you guys think about this ? I am not really a pro, i come back in the mapping world after one year break. :)

Back again with another update to my Western Map, I've been busy recently unfortunately but I still have made a bit of progress. I dont have any screenshots of progress this time around unfortunately, hopefully you guys will still take the time to check out a part of my town without em. The working title now is ttt_HighNoon and I am also looking for a Skybox that has the sun positioned at noon so it makes sense, the current skybox doesnt

Looks good, but align those textures and add trims and frames to those alcoves.

This is an old test map of mine, sort of iffy around the edges, but I might come back to stuff like this.

I was pretty satisfied with the other building block I made (sans interior) so I remade a strip mall I previously made because I was dissatisfied with how it was constructed, with no nodraws, brushes overlapping, and so forth. Now I'm making it and I'm trying to figure out some things:
1) Should I do anything to the roof? Right now it's kinda flat and I'm wondering whether or not to keep it that way or do something like add an awning over the front part of the stores
2) What should I make the other three stores?

Some CC:
Your wooden supports are too fat IMO. In real life they are mostly thinner.
You should do frames for all your windows and doors, frames go a long way making your map look better. Also door frames should use a wood texture and they look best when trey aren't wider than the wall (2nd pic.)
On the right building (and second picture) you are using a ceiling texture for a wall. This often looks strange. There are many other good wood wall textures in hl2.
Your map would benefit greatly from more dramatic lighting. Play with the angles and color of your environment light, and definitely dim and color the interior lights.
Someone has posted a completely brush-based pirate ship in here some time ago, along with a wonderful animated water texture. Does anyone still have a link to the post? I really need a decent water texture and the HL2 one is awful.
