Anyone knows this map? ;) (sorry if the images are really big here on the post, idk how to make them small) (More pictures to come and a few more days and there will be an alpha release)
Sorry, I've been out of my mapping game for a while, why does the water look like this in my map? [t]http://puu.sh/a4xQE/900ca2be4c.png[/t] And what is the best water texture for clean/clear look? [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] Nevermind, dev_water5 is the best one for my purposes.
FYI: To make the water stop cutting such a line at the edges of the surface, make the touching walls displacements.
[t]http://puu.sh/a4DYg/ead2a66305.png[/t]
Is that a Bhop map or something? I love the style.
If you turn off texture lock, you can resize an overlay and it'll tile. It never occurred to me to turn the texture lock off. goddamnit

It looks amazing, yo
Finalising my first actual map, cs_grande. My current point of concern is the skybox, it's a little bit weird. The hedges also have some weird lighting going on, but I'm not sure if that can be fixed. If anything it should inspire you

If you are, try setting ignoresurfacenormals to "yes" in your prop_static settings. It can really help make foliage look nice.
If anything it should inspire you
When I see good mapping I usually get inspired. When I see superior mapping, I more often then not become uninspired.
When I see good mapping I usually get inspired. Nice though. Hiyu never finished his version. I am aware that he made a video showing his remake. Also his map was just a very very small portion of the whole map from the video and pictures he uploaded. I think he did it to for fun. I asked him if he wanted to collaborate but he couldn't or didn't want to. I asked him if I could use his files since he was busy and was not going to finish his map but he said no and so far I have not seen new videos or images of his version. Its been 7 months already. I know he's busy with work since he is from the team behind the stanley parable but where is the map?. Also I mentioned more pictures to come, You haven't seen anything yet since my remake is the complete map and is ready for a full conquest gamemode.
Not to destroy your motivation, but didn't Hiyu already remake that map?

FYI: To make the water stop cutting such a line at the edges of the surface, make the touching walls displacements.
I'll apply that in the future but dev_water5 alleviated all problems and looks nicer. Magic?
For a WIP, it's turning out pretty nicely I'd say, close to the reference image. A lot of time, you gotta see the whole finished thing before being able to enjoy the sight of your work. It looks like the rooms inside the building have the same brick wall texture as outside though, which might make them look unfinished or something. Perhaps make the window closest to the foreground wind right around the corner of that building too? A window-vent like in the reference picture could also be cool. Also, the textures on the trim around the stairs aren't aligned, once they are it might look a lil smoother

Thanks for the insight. Can anyone suggest any decent street light props? I dont mind packaging them in with the map if anyone has any I can use.
I think the reason is the window on the bottom floor in the ref pic has a black frame and tiled under bit. You map has a brick corner which makes the windows look like they were just cut into the wall. You can also afford making the shop windows taller and moving the black thing closer to the window above. Bad news is the squashed size of windows and brick corner make it look nothing like the reference. Good news is you can fix it really easily.
I think you could make this area look a lot better by changing up the road and sidewalk textures, losing the oddly colored CSS tree and toning down the yellow from the light_environment. A new skybox could also serve to spruce things up. Obviously the focus is on the buildings, but working out those little details in the surroundings will probably help to better set them into the environment.

Im going to find better tree props to hopefully put in its place if I do at all. Managed to correct the corners: [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/585782746014718086/6DE3AF5FBEA187D3C52A086DD20E6A6C94840042/[/thumb]
It already looks leagues better, nice work!
something I'd personally recommend is insetting the window frame into the wall so it isn't lying flush with it. [t]http://cloud.graphicleftovers.com/34652/965625/brick-wall-black-rimmed-window.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.featurepics.com/FI/Thumb300/20070406/Window-Red-Brick-House-273188.jpg[/t]

Any chance for a 1920x1080 version? Would make for a nice background
Well here we are now! I need to put windows on the side along with adding a roof and correcting the height of the building as it doesn't lie flush with the neighboring house right now: [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/585782746016456581/9FE967CD40E9DEFAF116B7CCE9EE2DD034606795/[/thumb]
something I'd personally recommend is insetting the window frame into the wall so it isn't lying flush with it.
Yup! Thats the plan once I get round to sorting all window related issues with the map (some of them arent quite how I want them to be) . Things are starting to take shape!

Just out of curiosity, what models are you using for the gas pumps? They look awesome from the screenshots, I'd like to see a picture of them up close. Are they custom made by you?
