The thing with the func_reflective_glass is that it doesn't work with expensive water, which is a problem because I have a ditch to the right.
You cant have both expensive water and func_reflective_glass in the same map without causing errors.
Western map dude is back again! I've been having trouble finding inspiration for this town and making buildings that look good (church and the barn...) so I took a break. Still having some trouble but I feel a little more confident in my work. I have a video tour of the map so far currently uploading to Youtube so I will see about including that in this post when its done! Also the skybox in these screenshots is not being used anymore, I switched to Militia's [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/487828791806430055/0DE63041343A5BC8C187A12956772896BAEA437C/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/39722019927939994/DDF6611FF8F60B0596883DF6EA4AAE96210A9424/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/43098445065808966/1DB4D6F20C60C8C46E58E227E41DA14D7D1D9A55/[/t] This is supposed to be a video player thing...
I think a lot of things in your map look bulky and too big. I'm not sure what you are going to do to the buildings, but in some buildings you have a really big space behind the counter, in some buildings you don't. I don't know, the general shapes of the buildings look great, except the railings and frames.
You cant have both expensive water and func_reflective_glass in the same map without causing errors.
can you have them in the same map but each under a different PVS?
You cant have both expensive water and func_reflective_glass in the same map without causing errors.
Can't have them in the same visleaf. But how did you do the ground fog come on. Is it like the one in that new CS:GO map, a displacement with a scrolling fog texture?
Wait, which map did this?
[t]http://media.steampowered.com/apps/csgo/images/operationbreakout/slides/maps_3.png[/t] You can see it on the left side. I don't know how he did the scrolling fog without scrolling the alpha mask. Or maybe it's a blend texture with one being translucent.
so i made a house, and playing with reflectivity [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164082992/B3AD1ADB74B7087B203D1BEBA01E478A4A34D773/[/t][t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164080139/8959B3FD9CB55BCB13870FB9517E5F83BC5407B1/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164077731/7C4301195D7EBDBF717A2173C0EEBE913C7C8B1B/[/t][t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164075214/872F2B6EFE6FB72FEAA84D4B36AE838F796BC59E/[/t] [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164072959/A411C7E2A2FAF4C1BC08963B51CA32CDD27A4497/[/t][t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164070313/7DFC848C0059F10B1D69D991A5C8FE3C664FA031/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/36345672164067332/C4684AD1485807FCCA889FFDCB2A28A502679EDA/[/t]
That vmt command is probably my favourite thing about source.
stuff
what's up with the white dots in the sky?
That vmt command is probably my favourite thing about source.
So is it a good vmt command to add to any texture?
what's up with the white dots in the sky?
GPU death what's so funny??? i will laugh my ass when your GPU starts to make artifacts and eventually die
I've suddenly got my inspiration for mapping back today so I think I'll pickup my old bhop map. One issue I need to sort out right away is the textures. Can anyone recommend some good packs which have a dungeon kinda feel to them? It's all too dark and samey as it stands at the moment. Provided I ever finish the thing, it will be my first release so I want it to look nice. Now all that is left to do is really detailing of everything along with textures. Here's how it is as I left it: [t]http://puu.sh/aFxlp/657847ed2f.jpg[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/aFxk6/5b64d772fd.jpg[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/aFxnG/79e0206613.jpg[/t] Any C&C is welcome. First things first I need to make the whole thing much brighter and perhaps change the textures in a few rooms to add variety (once I can actually find a suitable set).
Impressive layout man. Considering there is a serious lack of dungeon textures the ones you have right now seem pretty fine to me. If you can spare the resources I would only recommend adding some more small details to make the hallways less hallway shaped, if you know what I mean.
Really nice stuff you have their man, for textures though I've always used HighdefGE's stuff http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1273113 http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1221494 http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1225197 The skyrim pack is probably what you want though.
The most useful pack would be the Skyrim ports but the DL link is broken.

Just one question: would packing in that content be frowned upon? I understand you can't really pack in content from other source games which you have to purchase, and even if they're free you're usually expected to provide credit where credit is due. I don't want to texture it all up only to discover that I can't submit the map to gamebanana for using textures from other games. If there isn't any issue with their use (which I'm guessing there most likely won't be) I'll happily use them since they look fantastic.

IIRC the textures aren't even from vanilla skyrim but from a texture mod for skyrim. The gmod workshop is full of maps with packed ep2, dod, css content. You can generally pack most stuff without any problems, especially if you give credit where its due.

It all looks fine for me. I think the sprites on the lights on the right could stand to have their opacity turned down
