some junk with 5 too many brushes: [T]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/23965327951752777/275264CD9B774CB8F34B32721405AC1A0CA69157/[/T] and a big ol low-grav room: [T]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/23965327982467875/42092E899829D41664D4AC0CF58126E4252AA6EE/[/T] [T]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/23965327982469142/83EB9210BCA26EEC53714FE134857BF1EDC586AD/[/T]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/YXeJbm8.jpg[/t] Having an issue with shadows in source. It seems like it's not updating shadows properly on certain structures? Like, I complied this as a full block, then cut a bit off the top and sliced the sides and now those faces are oddly shadowed. Anyone know what's going on?
Whenever I believe my map is not compiling correctly, I just copy/paste everything onto a new file.

[QUOTE=seba079;46057257]I think that's caused by smoothing groups, apply different groups to faces that share an edge[/QUOTE] VRAD will automatically smooth edges that have faces that are within (by default) 45 degrees of each other. You can change that value with -smooth. -smooth 0 will disable automatic smoothing, which is really nice for geometric stuff.

I love going through old map folders :v:

[QUOTE=sirdownloadsalot;46065025][t]http://i.imgur.com/fXE6MMc.jpg[/t] Tried to compile with -smooth 0, but it's still giving me weird shadow errors.[/QUOTE] It might be the luxel size is too big.
[QUOTE=vexx21322;46065418]It might be the luxel size is too big.[/QUOTE] [t]http://i.imgur.com/kGaZnNA.png[/t] Looks alright to me [editline]25th September 2014[/editline] It's like the entire brush is messed up? It's got this black shadow on the top I cant get rid of and if I adjust any brushes near it, the shadows stay the same, leading to massive black patches. Deleting and recreating the brush doesn't fix this. [editline]25th September 2014[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/UCQBwvI.jpg[/t] Other brushes that connected to it as well.
I'm afraid I don't know the solution to the big black face problem, but this edge [img]http://i.imgur.com/ZXzilnI.png[/img] has non-aligned luxels, which will probably cause shadow bleeding. Align that diagonal face to World
[QUOTE=sirdownloadsalot;46065025][t]http://i.imgur.com/fXE6MMc.jpg[/t] Tried to compile with -smooth 0, but it's still giving me weird shadow errors.[/QUOTE] This can happen if the brush is off grid. check to see if you brush has any decimals in it's size, and check if it's aligned to the grid.
still rusty [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/bMlci/dff749cb3f.jpg[/img_thumb] Oh right, forgot how much i suck at landscapes...

[QUOTE=seba079;46067538]The fog is too sudden imo, but I quite like it[/QUOTE] It goes amazingly with the skybox he's using. Do you mind sharing where you got it from?
Just Released my map Kandagal for Gamebananas contest with the environment all done. [QUOTE=FelixDragon;46070189]Move the faces to hard smoothing groups, or compile with "-smooth 1" in light.exe[/QUOTE] [t]http://i.imgur.com/jZjzJET.jpg[/t] Nope [img]http://fi.somethingawful.com/images/smilies/frown.gif[/img] [editline]25th September 2014[/editline] Okay fuck I'm an idiot :v: As it turns out, block lights in the skybox affect the main map as well. I had a scale replica of the map made out of block lights in the skybox so the shadows would match, but as it turns out, when I edited the brushes in the main map the shadows from the skybox remained. Bluhh, all solved now anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
so i've decided to go back to projects i was working on a year ago cs_holiday_trouble [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/32972954657345092/AD414A560B2080B281BD1538C3680898D8C5549F/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/32972954657383471/EFEEBBEB6F0DCB4A756B11529FF6CB260035C788/[/t] will post few pics of the frozenjail later, when i'll compile the map for those artifacts complainers, i [B]might[/B] buy a new gpu this weekend, or sooner

I would like to start another mapping competition once the current 20 brush one finishes. I'm not sure if it should be... (a) Capture the essence of Autumn (the season not the mod) - judged on aesthetics (b) Capture the essence of Winter/The Holidays - judged on aesthetics or (c) Recreate a video game map in Hammer (NO GOLDENEYE) - judged on accuracy, gameplay, and aesthetics Recreating a map would be the fairest one, since you don't necessarily need to make it pretty for it to win.
Just did a lot of work on my map [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/49861453262523504/F8808EF1EF744A07440CEE6E474831E22BCC81AC/[/thumb] [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/49861453262525662/E3B88F8A31C889B879211C860C7B7AD701E27737/[/thumb] [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/49861453263324026/30DF3C46133CBBAD03F449B658DF34B10F6F1A42/[/thumb] [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/49861453263331863/1729138681A83F89BB73CBC7DD195CB07068DC32/[/thumb] [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/49861453263325502/7369C9EAE3E396E2E04F9885D07F75F0BF4840CF/[/thumb] And here's the image of the map in hammer [thumb]http://puu.sh/bNoIJ/afc751e899.png[/thumb]
Is your Hammer set up wrong, 3.4, 3.5, 3.5.1, 3.5.2? You should be able to see the models in the 3D view.
