The shadows here seem unnecessarily sharp. Are you sure they'd look this way? If you're going to make them like that, maybe you should consider putting some window beams in there to cut up the light some more.

CS:GO has very hard shadows.
I am aware of that. It looks like the lightmaps underneath don't falter from the hard shadows, though.

that's because dynamic shadows are always grey, and they blend into the lightmaps. If the ambient color isn't a shade of grey you get a noticeable seam.

If your ambient is grey it properly blends.

well that turned out decent, no?
You can put edges on the roof
never really thought of that
[del]what are those roofs called anyway? i can never find any reference pictures[/del]
mansard roofs, huh
Not that you'll really see it from a ground perspective, but I'd mix those trees up a bit in the back. The pattern is pretty visible. That's just a little niggle though, it looks really good.

so like this with details? takes too long to compile on this machine

yeah just needs some fine tuning
You can do stuff like this
now this is the kind of stuff i don't know about
like.. how you make it in hammer with brushes and stuff. good to know

now if only that water glitch didn't happen...
there aren't even two visible waters
Is this an appropriate place to post normal maps and materials I'm working on? I'm taking a break from geometry to finalize the textures on my map before my crazybump trial runs out

Assuming you can't uv wrap textures on brushes like in 3ds, that's probably 3 brushes there-- if I were doing that I'd take a rectangular block, carve that middle section with another block, and put brushes on the top and bottom.
... If however there is a way to give multiple textures to one surface I'd love to hear it because I hate cutting things up just to do that

Photoshop the texture to fit your purposes.

It would be best if he used 7 brushes instead of carving

In my experience rectangular on-grid carving is okay, if the surface was angled though yeah I'd just make brushes instead

My Photoshop trial ran out so I've been using a combination of paint.net and gimp; I really enjoy the skidders and visualizer on crazybump but I'll be fucked if I'm going to pay $200 for it
Really neat skybox though
I never thought of using the cliff rocks on an angle like that to emulate mountains before. That's very clever. :v:
You could easily make a decal/overlay in paint.net if you download gfcscape and vtfedit
I made a thing :S

use except remove the "S" from "https"

I've been using pdn for decals and overlays (although alpha masking has been through the Gimp) but for adjusting normalmaps I'm really enjoying crazybump's sliders because I get to immediately see a render. I'm going to switch to ShaderMap2 once Crazybump runs out

Only because I use it and enjoy it, but have you ever looked into ndo2/NDO? http://quixel.se/ndo
Really neat skybox though
it really does add depth, yeah

You should look into plugins for Paint.net, it really transforms it into a more powerful tool.
There is for example one that lets you use a black and white mask for tranparency where black will show as transparent, I use it quite a bit.
Here it is if you would like to try it out.

kinda hard to find good pine/spruce sprites, i don't want to steal from gm_fork

It's cool, I stole them too :downs: Just took some fullbright screenshots of the Ep2 pine model.

!!!
I've been looking for that type of addon. When I google "paint.net alpha mask" all I get are people asking how to do it, and responses saying "lol why would you want to do that". Thank you!
