I always wondered if having horizontal struts in the same repeating pattern is adding any value to the final strength of a wall's frame. In a earlier project of mine, I'm using a random pattern in the struts. [T]http://upl.kittehcat.org/2014-12-08_16-31-49.jpg[/T] This was mostly to toy around with plumbing / wiring when I got bored over the summer.
Would you post more pics of that map?

Your struts look okay (although they're pushing it a little bit), but make sure to avoid staggering them at half height increments. From a quick googling it seems like most building involves putting horizontal struts as close as they can be without making one large horizontal bar, which makes sense to me.
Would you post more pics of that map?
ok. [T]http://i.imgur.com/eeKHPzm.jpg[/T][T]http://i.imgur.com/d2lvfdu.jpg[/T] [T]http://i.imgur.com/LvmUwRU.jpg[/T][T]http://i.imgur.com/aVBVQms.jpg[/T] I need to redo the air conditioner's pipework a bit though, as the outdoor unit looks like ass on the front facade. I basically made this thing together with what I know about electronics, such as mounting a ceiling fan on a rafter like that should be possible, considering I've installed my own fan which was not that heavy (I lifted the whole fan assembly in the ceiling bracket)
Outdoor ceiling fans? Those are a thing?
Outdoor ceiling fans? Those are a thing?
Yes, actually. Common in higher-class homes in the south. Can be on porches or in verandas.
Yes, actually. Common in higher-class homes in the south. Can be on porches or in verandas.
Also people fuss about how big doors are in L4D2, they are actually that big irl in the south.
And also, unless you change it, by default the player is basically a manlet because for some reason Valve uses different scales for architecture and props/the player.
And also, unless you change it, by default the player is basically a manlet because for some reason Valve uses different scales for architecture and props/the player.
I scaled everything in my map to the player collision box because that seemed to make sense-- 72 units at a 1:1 inch:unit scale is exactly 6 feet

hey guys, if I were to make some various store prop items, what would you like to see? at the moment I'm thinking of making a whole bunch food items and clothing racks with some clothes on them etc, but there must be some other stuff I'm missing.

Along with the frozen isle freezers!
Supermarket shelves, Definitely. Along with the frozen isle freezers!
Cash registers, shopping carts, ceiling dome security cameras, shoplifting detectors.
Cash registers, shopping carts, ceiling dome security cameras, shoplifting detectors.
All of these things are L4D2 props, pretty detailed too.

Wow. So simple yet so beautiful.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/4lX91aJ.jpg[/t] it's the sewer thing
I'm really liking that roundness on the sides there. Very nice work.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/4lX91aJ.jpg[/t] it's the sewer thing
The one from the first post? Or am I missing 'the' sewer thing?
I posted a wormhole-like 3D skybox some time ago, but I don't think I ever posted what came of it, so here: [T]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/539628549083425714/C25863EE3481FA7ED629AC4A89D008A9AE98A834/[/T]

So, I've spent more than 10 hours on the map in the past three days, and managed to get pretty damn far. Been working on this since August. It's nowhere near finished so all I'm looking for is some general criticism, it's a small town in the Nevada desert. Every building except two has a fully detailed interior. Not sure how to expand the town though, or just end it there, and I need better foliage props.
