started making a small office building
make the bricks stand out less.
looks incredibly unnatural.
try your typical-colored bricks.

Something simple that I made, simply due to boredom.
updated the building
-redesigned the exterior
-replaced the windows (if you're part of texture collab, you can find it in my folder)
-added lights
-staircase redesigned
-cubemaps

I started making an elementary school but, I'll never release it because I hate most of the buildings so I figured I'd show you guys.
an animated model would work, and place an invisible water brush under it.
You can use something like houdini or 3DS Max to render out a couple plains of simulated water, then bake it with a vertex animation and a refract VMT (and a few other shaders on the other planes of water)

Is that furniture all made of brushes, or models?
Is that furniture all made of brushes, or models?
Models. A few of the larger ones without beveled edges are brushes.
I added this sort of junction with signs and shit

the signs will most likely be placeholders, and I haven't got around to finishing some of the buildings.
also i dont know how to write in cyrillic so i just put some random letters together :v:
If you had have wrote "цемент" [del]you would've spelt cement in cyrillic.[/del] you would have cement in Russian.

I like the simplicity of the buildings and the elegant use of wood, but I feel like it's a bit empty and too simplistic at times. Maybe try to add some decals that could spice up the area a bit or focus on some more complex geometry/models/textures?
Looks good though!

Also, this isn't mapping related, but if anyone here needs some music for a mod or something of the likes, send me a message. I'm always looking for some practice.

Looks nice, perhaps you should make those metal awnings hanging over the doors slightly less thick and create trims for the windows as they don't appear to have any.

I'm a sucker for subterranean-themed maps. I can only suggest that you give it some more detail (piping or girders?) so it'll look a little less empty.

Any critique for this bomb/defuse map layout that I've been working on?

I think it may play a bit better if you added the following modifications:
RED = new path/hallway
GREEN = crates

It's just a broken entity probably carried over from HL1.
I think it was used back in the day of hl1 to place model based stuff around the level.
This is an old test map of mine
I wanted to test out the concept of recreating something from blueprints just to see how it would look, in this case a Pullman coach for a narrow gauge railroad.

I hope to use this technique to complete a train in the future with designs like this perhaps.

Fantastic work! However it does look a bit strange to have bricks making up round columns.

That looks really nice. Got the illusion of being underwater pretty much nailed. The only problem with the whole thing is that the fog will conflict with long hallways and big rooms.

Not an issue at all. Everything outside is a part of the 3d skybox which holds its own fog. Only downside is that having the main map see itself through the windows won't look as good.

How do you give skyboxes their own fog?
