That would look great with some slight, fake volumetrics.

the only thing really bothering me is the the windows have cross sections which aren't casting shadows. Try placing a block light to align with the window texture / model?
Wouldn't it be cool to take a map like that, build it, take a screenshot, then build it again but change the sun angle by one degree, then building it again and taking a screenshot.
Just a proof of concept, would probably look pretty cool.
Been sitting on this map for awhile, finally got Windows Movie Maker to start so I put this video together. Thought I'd post it here since I haven't posted in forever.

I love the water effects. The water running down the walls, the textures look wet and the atmosphere was spot on. Great work!
Edit
My upcoming Portal map. This map is actually a year old as it was suppose to be a map for Tornate.

That looks incredible. Videos like this are the reason I regularly visit this thread, so much more powerful than pictures.
How did you do those water dripping effects? Also seems like a perfect recreation of the 'real' area.

Awesome! Do you think you're ever going to release it?
Also, more WIP stuff:

I took an image from Google and I basically just recreated it, I'm going to train on the feel of atmosphere on different places on the upcoming week :)
Oh and hello Facepunch !

The yacht has 4 decks all of which are completely explore-able, but I don't want to reveal too much just yet. I like to surprise people
Make it a TTT map.
That's exactly what I'm doing actually, I don't know if people will bother hosting it though. There will be a massive amount of custom content.

Isn't steam pipe suppose to do something about that?
I don't know what steam pipe is or what it would do.
the compression for workshop is great-- people would definitely sacrifice space for a TTT map like that
the compression for workshop is great-- people would definitely sacrifice space for a TTT map like that
But regardless won't server owners want a map that their players can download very quickly? I'm not familiar with how workshop works though.

It's not much, but I like the way the atmosphere came out. It's an armory for an older project I'm picking back up.

I lit it in SFM because I am anal about having shadows.

As you can see, this image doesn't really match the in-game shot : sometimes I'll only take some elements (here, the road and the bar) to create something else ^^
What got me inspired for the sea ? I don't really know ... I did play Lost Coast some days ago ;)

not too crazy about "the ship" textures, they look too cartoon-like imo.

Nice, I always like maps about boats/ships. gonna follow that one :P

Does workshop compress after something is uploaded? Because when I tried archiving a map with garry's gma tool, it didn't compress at all.

Having not used SFM, what sort of lighting options do you have? Are they projected or is there a bake process?

Hijacked :v:
Having not used SFM, what sort of lighting options do you have? Are they projected or is there a bake process?
They are projected. It's basically a env_projectedtexture afaik but you are limited to 8 lights that can cast shadows, but you can have like 10 or whatever amount of lights that you want as long as they don't cast shadows.
Basically in this shot, I have 6 (going to be 7) lights that have shadows enabled and 4 lights on the exterior of the map with shadows disabled to "fake" the light bounce.

I don't know what kind of garage thingy you're going for but the ceiling / ambient light should be MUCH weaker than that
Changed the lighting on the environment and I'm playing with lightmaps.

Tell me what you think, what you would like to see and where the biggest improvements are to be made.

What's with the strange shadows under the furniture? They look kinda odd.
