You aren't limited to tiny detailsprites sheets anymore. You can have a 2048x2048 one if you wish. The only difference is the 64000 detailsprites limit and the fact it's cpu based, which is why the Dear Esther team changed some engine code to make detailsprites GPU based. The current version of source is simply not made for this, but detailsprites will still be a less expensive solution than doing this. Also since it's a brush I can't use lighting, luckily my game is cartoon themed and won't deter the visual fidelity I am hoping.

But knowing Source and Hammer something will fuck up along the way.

Looks really good. Is that snow on the rooves of those buildings in the last image? If so, why is there no snow anywhere else?
Like I said just ignore the 3D Skybox. It's all just a placeholder for the time being as it's pretty low on my todo list.

That's what I think you meant. Purple just looks weird, even if it does catch the eye. You have to think about why there'd be purple when it's orange and brown outside.
