That doesn't help me pick out rgb values for lighting
For starters use rgb values from the skybox texture for both fog and lighting. Take screenshots of the skybox and get the values in a image editing program. Then mess with that.
Been working on my Saxton Hale map some more.
I plan to do the spawn rooms and 3d skybox tomorrow.

And the lower floor.

new lighting + fog looks good on my monitor atleast
The image is literally pitch black apart from the hud. Though I'm browsing on my phone, I should be able to see at least some shapes, eapecially when taken into account that Lumias have one of the best screens of mobile devices.

Not much better on PC with IPS, although if I open it in new window I can se some shapes

Here's what I do to pick out rbg values for lighting, at-least. Click the 'Pick color' button under Brightness/Ambient, and pick a rather distinct color. Say, yellow and white. Then do a fast compile on the map, Decide that I like the white ambient light on that map in-particular, and change the brightness to a more light-blueish/white. Fiddle around and go from there.
But the others are correct, your screenshot is barely visable. The only thing I can pick out from it without straining my eyes is the hud, and I'm on a MacBook Pro with Retina with the brightness all the way up. You have to consider that your monitor isn't everyone elses when designing a map, especially when it comes to lighting. Perhaps try your map out on a friends computer/etc to get better results on what everyone else is really seeing.

If you view it full screen it isn't as pitch black as the thumbnail makes it out to be, that said it is still a bit to dark.
Should I change to snow instead?

much better than before
I mess around with Env_projectedtextures
[t]http://media.moddb.com/images/downloads/1/58/57256/2013-07-22_00001.jpg[/t]
I also made a thread on moddb
http://www.moddb.com/mods/portal-2-abyss
its compiled using default and it's already look better than the usual light spot and lights i was using.
Would it be more expenssive to use many of them instead of using tons of lights and light spots ?
[editline]22nd July 2013[/editline]
Fail!.. I just forgot i cant use multiple env_projectedtexture

You can edit how many env_projectedtexture's can be used at once in mods, which I believe is what you're making this for. Here's a link to the fix, just bare in-mind how expensive env_projectedtexture's are before replacing all your lights with them.
On another note, I got bored the other day and decided to make my first Portal map. Not exactly what you'd expect though. I'd love some feedback on it though, debating on just tossing it into my old-projects folder and moving on or not at this point.

Sorry about the weird border, YouTube apparently doesn't like 2880x1800 resolutions. Before anyone says it, I've fixed the sounds since when I recorded this and expanded it further as-well. I was thinking about spreading it far enough to reach the horizon, but we'll see if Source lets it get that far.
worked on my mod today.

Special thanks to SejiEvan
This is only in Alpha state, it is still subject to changes.

custom content up the ass
and i'm late for work, fuck
So does propper work with CS:GO? If not, how can I go about doing it? Would I have to make a propper model in HL2 and then port it over?

That was really cool, do you plan on making it into one of those psychological/trippy maps? I don't think I've seen any good ones (or any at all) for portal 2, so you would be a pioneer if you did!
Right guys, again only just started mapping for CS:GO. Whenever I test out a map, I'll be given the team choosing screen, choose a team, and then suddenly the map reloads. I can't find any errors in the console. It's really strange. Spawnpoints are fine, there are no strange entities anywhere, so I've no idea why its doing it.
All my own assets.

Looks very nice, the only thing that really irks me is the low-polygon door. You could probably fix that by making it double the size, with 32 sides instead of 16, and shrinking it down using propper.

Why does the light on the ceiling looks like it has lens flare?
Why does the light on the ceiling looks like it has lens flare?
Probably a custom sprite.
Lense flare shader actually, But I would like to re-create the effect with sprites if possible for a csgo map.

People are probably going to disagree with me heavily here, but I actually love that lens flare sprite. They can be really good if used sparsely in the right places.
Would you want to share it here or do you want to keep it for yourself? :v:

Flashy pretty things like overbright lens flares are a cheap way of making your map look "good", at least in the eyes of those easily distracted by shiny things. Maps can look nice with hard work and acute attention to detail, accuracy, and realism, without the need to throw in lens flares and make people think it's instantly amazing. Used sparsely and in the right places, sure, it can be a nice touch, but overdone and it'll just look ehhh

if the map looks like crap, no lens flare will help. also if the map is well done then putting lens flares in right places will only be a +

[del]I disagree, there are some circumstances where it's perfectly applicable and isn't just to be a flashy distracting gimmick. If you put it on every light fixture in a room mind you, that's a completely different tale.[/del]

Could you bring the brightness up a bit? It looks rather dark atm.
