I think ideally for better support for the roof in the second picture you would want the lower horizontal beams to meet up with the ends of the curved beams. I'm not an expert on physics but I think you should read up on A - Frames.

Not much change since then other than dirtying it up and HDR, some shelves added as cover too for the balconies. (Considering removing those completely as I think they might give too much of an advantage but they also make you a target, this is why I need the feedback) Oh and it's purely a gungame map.
I originally took this screenshot to ask why the heck the chair was showing through the glass. But I found it was the model itself, I'll just need to replace it. Figured it may be interesting to share it anyways though

You can actually just make sure that $translucent isn't in the vmt for the chair.

I picked up CS:GO recently and started working on a little highway map. Needs quite a bit done to it still obviously, but here's what I got so far.

Is the displacement on the right going to meet with the inside corner of the curb, or is that just something you haven't fixed yet?
(Same applies to all displacements in the picture)

Thanks guys, I'll look into using the curb props instead of the texture.
Wigbig, I don't think I'll make the the sidewalk displacements connect with the dirt/grass displacements, they'll probably be separated by curb props instead. I know it looks a little unnatural right now, but thanks for the critiques!

Don't forget that you'll have to manually apply bodygroups to prop_ragdolls to get stuff like glasses and security vests on them, otherwise they'll just be the default versions. You can do it with a setbodygroup trigger or give the ragdoll a name from the characters.txt (Or something similar, I can't exactly remember the name of that file.)

Also, it seems like the cliff abruptly cuts off at the top, you'd think there'd be a bit of height variety at that point because it just seems like it's got a completely flat top area.

Could I get some criticism. It's for Flood Mod if you know what that is. I'm trying to think of things to add, like I might add a few pipes and such on the edges. I'm not good with maps, I just need one so suggestions on what to fix/change would be great.

I'm no mapping King, but for starters, I would put in some lighting. You might want to try changing the skybox to something you like, too. It's a decent map, you've got some detail already which is pretty good. One thing I would say is maybe put some trim on the bottom of that white brick wall and/or align the texture so the bottom of the bricks is where the floor meets the wall. I would add the pipes you were talking about, too, but don't over do it. The only other thing I can think of is maybe work on the window on the ceiling. Maybe make it not even with the ceiling and put some supports up there, too.

I centered a camera viewpoint for the video, but normally you can walk around/shit while it happens. Pretty trippy, even without The Rift.

Break up the repeating wall texture with a big window or something. I would also personally go with a darker brick color for the walls. Notice how the dark metal texture on your supports in the middle make it not look like it's repeating as much unless you concentrate on it.

First off, I'm not quite sure what the room is supposed to be, really. With the floor grates, it looks like a sewer overflow tunnel, but with the door and vent, it looks like a giant maintenance room. If it's a warehouse, it wouldn't have massive columns and a spacious skylight, as a warehouse is usually cluttered, dark, and tight on space. Try to nail down what the room's purpose is, then start decorating - it's a lot easier.
The room is also really oddly proportioned, like it's designed for giants or something. The white brick repeats far too often, and you can see where the texture repeats easily. Varying textures, like concrete for the lower area and gray brick for the upper levels, can fix the problem. The massive pillars look out of place, especially with the rusted black metal, so try breaking the supports into several smaller girders instead.
Also, lighting is a must for a finished project. There are fluorescent light models in Half-Life 2's resources, they might work pretty well.
I made more progress on porting Romans Apartment, but now i'm not sure about the size scale. When I'm in first person it looks right, but any npcs in the room look small. Does it look about right, or should I scale it down a little bit?

Generally, if the room is 128 (Hammer) units tall, then you're on target for an average-sized room.
There's a good chance you might have to scale down the textures to fit.

that is definitely not in proportion, I think you need to scale it down a fair amount. That room looks like it has 13 foot ceilings. Like the poster said earlier before, you generally shoot for 128 units in height, floor to ceiling.
For anyone else with the cubemap error download the new fixed vbsp.exe [URL="https://github.com/ValveSoftware/source-sdk-2013/issues/40"]here[/URL] and redirect your Hammer vbsp file path to the new one.
It's still not a total fix but it's a lot better. The problem is cubemapss will be messed up until you build without hdr and then build again with hdr. Instead of just being black like before when there are no cubemaps your cubemaps will be really bright after you compile so it kind of sucks to take two minutes to build them twice. But oh well at least you don't have to remove them now every time.

Tried it, too bad sometime the game just crash when it try to load the maps.
The rift is not in a good resolution, not good enough so I was not able to read the text.
Since im playing sit on my chair I felt comfortable in the car. With the oculus I can only focus at the middle of the screen.
