But that's all they are, "Dev" textures, for development, I wouldn't want to make a map just to leave it with the Development textures applied, feels like I haven't finished it.
I forget the name precisely, but there was a map a while back called something like "gm_developer_otter." 100% dev textured, and beautiful as mah girl! (ok nothing's THAT beautiful but you get the point :v:)
He's not saying dev textures can't look attractive, he's saying texturing is as much a part of mapping as is brush work and prop placement.
I'd like to see:
- Industrial themed
- Super secret government buildings
- Heaven and Hell
- Islands
- Western themed
Government especially
Western and government would be awesome shit.
Government?
Like skyscrapers and shit?

Area 51, buildings like the pentagon hidden in a forest.

Not exactly hidden, but it would be fun to make. You could add your little fun things in that building, per se.
Holy crap, that's awesome, we should make hidden bases like in Resident Evil 4 when the floor and table split in half, revealing an elevator that takes you miles underground to a base thing.

Or make "just" a hatch, but on opening displaying a huge militairy complex inside for WW III or something.
I wouldn't join in that case. Never was a real fan of government things.
I love making bunkers but never really had inspiration, I think this would be cool.
I'd like to see a village in the middle of nowhere.
I'd join in on a bunker.
Just because you want to make a village in the middle of nowhere (as an example, not aimed directly at you), then come up with a contest that encompasses a village in the middle of nowhere. Not a "Village in the middle of nowhere, contest".
Contest theme could be "Isolation" in that case.
Same for "Bunkers" and such. That's far too specific, you'll just get about 10, generic, same-y bunkers.
Maybe an isolated village with a secret? That could be a bunker where the entrance is hidden, and we can come up with clever ways to reveal it? Or something like that....
It's all too specific, like Selby said.
I wouldn't enter a contest that didn't make me think about how to respond to the contest theme. Something with enough scope for the various entrants to come up with their own, unique interpretation of the theme.
What if one of your team members drops out?
[editline]09:53AM[/editline]
Or no-one wants to team up with you?
Well then you're dropping out too. :crossarms:
how does "circular" or "round" sound?
so that you have to use the vertex tool alot, cylinders or spheres, or maybe even displacements.
here is a good example

its from the WIP/pimpage thread by stlungle.

I'm not but what if you are working with one other person and they decide they want to drop out on you?
Then both drop out unless they find another partner. :am:

I think Sci-fi would fit better in that.
This maaay be too specific, but what about a Saw type map where you have to include puzzles and horror, but otherwise you're pretty free.
Or, entrants have to make some ride from a theme park, but you're not allowed to do what someone else is doing so we don't end up with 20 rollercoasters.
Wasn't there a water contest recently? Did that go anywhere? It coulda been awesome.

The single player competition.
Make something from a movie or game competittion thats not too specific? Could be collab too?
I still support my idea from page one about a creative use for triangles or a similar shape.
Organic.
Organic.
nature?
nature?
Organic is more open to interpretation. If you pick Nature you're just going to get lots of forests.
yeah, people usually connect "nature" with woods too often.
how about a desert?
or even more unspecific: heat :smug:
Hot and/or cold

I'm in for it.
i knew someone read it that way...
