I've been running Half life 2 under 2009, cos episode two had the grid problem even in 2009 version. I just wanted to ask for help but it suddenly seems to works now!!! so yay!
EDIT: NVM my euphory, it doesn't compile under EP 2009. in the compile log window, it just stops doing anything after one second, when starting up vbsp.exe. =S In the task manager vbsp has 50% cpu usage, so it'S doing something, but just nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?
I can't make shit in hammer everytime I want to make a brush it just fucking turns into camera mode. Sucks, me and a friend were gunna make a map today too.

Oh nevermind suddenly it's working. How weird.
Ok, so, I've changed the compile tools in the EP2 config from SDK 2007 to orangebox, and it seems to have solved it. Was that the proper sollution?
Aye, I just did that.
Here's what I added to my game config file, for those with issues:
"Half-Life 2: Episode Two"
{
"GameDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\half-life 2 episode two\ep2"
"hammer"
{
"GameData0" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\halflife2.fgd"
"TextureFormat" "5"
"MapFormat" "4"
"DefaultTextureScale" "0.250000"
"DefaultLightmapScale" "16"
"GameExe" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\half-life 2 episode two\hl2.exe"
"DefaultSolidEntity" "func_detail"
"DefaultPointEntity" "info_player_start"
"BSP" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe"
"Vis" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe"
"Light" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe"
"GameExeDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\portal"
"MapDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk_content\ep2\mapsrc"
"BSPDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\maps"
"CordonTexture" "tools\toolsskybox"
"MaterialExcludeCount" "0"
}
}
Obviously replace dashtm with your username.
Where does this file go? I'm adding it to the GameConfig.txt (<account>/sourcesdk/bin/orangebox/bin/GameConfig.txt) where similar information for Portal and TF2 already is but to no avail.
[editline]09:16PM[/editline]
Stuff that, my mistake. Realized I don't have an x64 OS.
Anyway now I get an error saying "Failed to load default scheme file" when I load/start a map and Hammer closes.
I'm sorry. But do func_tank brushes play the animations now?
I was unclear about the problem the first person was mentioning. I thought it might pertain to mine but I want to check.
Were you never able to apply decals to displacements or is it because it's broken?
I don't think you can apply decals to displacements, Try overlays instead.
With the texture apply window open, using the arrow keys now nudges the texture instead of looking around. Anyone know how to fix this?

Finally got it working..
"Half-Life 2: Episode Two"
{
"GameDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\half-life 2 episode two\ep2"
"hammer"
{
"GameData0" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\halflife2.fgd"

"BSP" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe"
"Vis" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe"
"Light" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe"
"GameExeDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\portal"
"MapDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\sourcesdk_content\ep2\mapsrc"
"BSPDir" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\dashtm\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\maps"
"CordonTexture" "tools\toolsskybox"
"MaterialExcludeCount" "0"
}
}
Make sure you put this in
<account>/sourcesdk/bin/orangebox/bin/GameConfig.txt
Make sure you replace dashtm with your steam name
Make sure you have the directories correct to where your steam is.
It will work once you meet these terms.
Broken SDK? I didn't know it's broken.
Engine: Source SDK Version 2007
Game: Garrysmod steam\steamapps\sexy-xexy\garrysmod\garrysmod
However there are alot of texture bugs that can happen with custom content.
This is not to worry.
Just make sure you install them 100% Correctly.
Also, You may get an error when compiling. Move all custom models to HL2 Deathmatch and then compile. This should work. Also, if you have the textures and they show up on game for some custom models. The texture on the models will show up too.
When I click the block tool it just moves the camera. Sometimes it will fix it self but then it won't work again.
has there been any official comment from valve?
Probably not.
Ep2does use the douce engine 2009 for mac compatibilities.
My views in Hammer are broken, as in there is no grid and things are pitch black, I've tried re-enabling the grid but it doesn't fix it, anybody know a fix?
1. Open Source SDK
2. Ensure the first drop box is set to Source Engine 2009.
3. Double click "Edit Game Configurations"
4. Click "Add"
5. Give it a name. For example "ep2"
6. Click browse and navigate to the "half life 2: Episode 2/ep2" folder.
7. Click "#vgui_select", or the centre button.
8. Click "OK"
9. Click "OK" on the next dialog box.
10. Restart Source SDK
11. Observe EP2 is now in your directory.
12. Open hammer and add the relevant fgd's.

Still not working. :(
[editline]02:02PM[/editline]
Well actually my problem is there isn't an ep2 folder under steamapps for my name. How do I fix that?
Anyone know why theres no games under my 2009 Engine in SDK and how can i fix it?
Ok i have noticed the large amount of threads being made about SDK errors, So i think i should give this a bump and hope that people start using this thread again.
None for me because it's been fixed, for the 2009 configuration which everybody uses anyway :smug:
Hammer for some reason gets really, REALLY slow after about 30 seconds of mapping and I am forced to exit it. I am using the '09 Episode 2 config of Hammer. Anyone else got this?
I don't.
Ok, thanks. Maybe I need to update some games? Team Fortress 2 for example hasn't been updated since last week?
So when I start Hammer in 2009 Engine Episode 2, all of the entities are obsolete... Why?
Check that the proper FGDs are loaded.
