At the bottom of the Textures window, there is a field you can use to filter for textures.

No there isn't.
EDIT: Ok this is what happens when I try to open a new thing. It says 'No textures are available for use with this game. You must set them up in the textures tab of the options dialog box before you can edit maps for this game.'So I'm trying to add textures in the textures tab in the options menu.

Next to the red box.
Try Refreshing SDK Content.

The what?
Are you in Hammer downloaded from the Source SDK in your tools tab?

what?
Did you download Hammer off of a website, or through Steam?

A website. Didn't know I could get it through steam.

Apparently I need simpler words? :(
That version of Hammer is for the GoldSCR engine, not Source.

Well your gonna need to go to the tools tab, then download Source SDK, then open Hammer from there.

How?
Do you even have steam?
Click on the link, there is a picture guide.
Here, click this:

(Might have to copy and paste into address bar) and hit enter. It will download the source sdk for you.
On an unrelated note: What is the dev command to reload a map? I really hate having to restart Gmod every time I make a change to my map.
Reload
Ok so when I get this I follow the steps everyone told me?
And that's it? Nothing else?
Man, I feel dumb today :(
EDIT: And, yes.
I'm pretty sure that's it.
Or map mapnamehere!
(Just reloads the maps the normal way)
I don't see what you mean I downloaded it extracted it restarted hammer and nothing happened.
The textures have to be compressed in a certain way. First, your textures need to be in bitmap format (.BMP) then look up and download wally texture editor. Import all your textures into wally, select them all at once, save as, half-life bundle (.wad)
Btw the thing with all this half-life stuff is because HL2 is the base of pretty much every VALVe game.

Dude this thread is from 2008. Please read the post dates.
Hey, since this thread is bumped and everything, and I basically have the same question, I'll post my question.
What I need to do is take textures from Alien Swarm and put them into the Left 4 Dead 2 materials so I can use them in Hammer.
But I can't find the textures fucking anywhere. I've looked all around the materials folders and I can't find shit. Not even GCF scape can find anything.
Its inside the steam addon files inside your steam\steamapps\common\Alien Swarm\swarm\ folder. You can open them with GCF Scape.
Terrenteller, I am truly amazed by your patience.
edit: didn't even see that was 2 years ago, but still.
