Arch tool -> Multiple sizes -> So much fucking better looking in 2d and 3d (3d for texturing.)
Arch tool never bloody works.
Finally some people who understand after all these years. You can use the carve tool perfectly fine in some or most cases depending on your map. Saves a heck lot of time. And don't use other shapes than square for carving.

maybe if you have no hands and your mouse is detached

Thank you, that fixed my problem. :zoid:.
Off-topic: SAUCE ON UR AVATAR STRIDER, NOW. :ohdear:
Carve is still a bad idea waiting to happen. And it's much better practice to do it all manually. Shortcuts only tend to bite you in the ass in the long run.
Carve is bad. Although there are instances where it would work if you make random shapes and try it and I think clip is better by a long run but I have used carve and its made the same result as clipping but it took less time. I really don't think people should be saying " Oh my fucking god don't use carve!!!" If people use them, and the maps turn out to be shit.. don't download them. Problem solved. :smug:

Arch tool always works for me...

I hate clipping and carving altogether to be honest, I use different types of brush shapes and place them together, no this doesn't make it any less accurate, just makes it easier to handle it all. Carving and clipping makes lots of small nasty bits.
All in all, clipping is better than carve.

Yeah sure, when doing exact circles. From one viewport.
How about no, because then we get leaky ugly pieces of shit when people over-complicate their maps using carve.
Then it's their own fault.
Yeah sure, when doing exact circles. From one viewport.
Isn't that kind of the point?
Yeah sure, when doing exact circles. From one viewport.
I can do it in any viewport and any degrees and it would still work.

Eh what else would you want to make with it?
tl;dr Moderate topic of thread; BmB knows nothing about source. :v:
Surprisingly a lot of Valve guys use carve at times. It is a very fragile tool, and most people never use it, but could be good in a very small amount of circumstances.
"clipping makes lots of small nasty bits."
You're doing it wrong then.

You are using it very wrong

Nope.

Looks fine to me. Just rotate it.
From what I'm seeing it looks like BmB doesn't realize that you have to make the arch half it's size if you're creating a 180 degree arch.
If you make it half sized a half circle will get squeezed.
Look again Firegod, not only is it oriented towards to the top viewport no matter what, it also distorts the shape and exceeds the boundaries of my designated area. In fact it is entirely offset.
That's no "working from all viewports with any angle" I ever saw.
This is a 120 degree arc of a perfect circle btw. The preview often seems to get it right, and respects the shape of your box, but this always happens when you actually commit it. Unless you have an angle that is a multiple of 90. Starting from an angle that is a multiple of 90. On a perfectly square box from the top viewport.
That's extremely limited compared to carving cylinders.

If your only making half a circle, then the box would have to be 1024x512 respectively. You have to change the dimensions of the box you are going to create the arch in to suite the desired shape. If you want to make a full circle that is 1024x1024, then you make 1024x1024 box, if you want to make half a 1024x1024 circle, then you have to make a 1024x512 box otherwise, yes, it will distort.
Now that I look at it. It looks like you did something wrong;

This is where you are doing it wrong.
Carve actually can be useful, at times, but only for making convex shapes, never concave shapes.
for instance, if you have an arched roof and want to clip a wall to fit inside it, you can easily do that with carve.

Solution, arch is buggy when doing that, make a full circle and clip it.
It makes a perfect half circle if the block tool is a perfect square from the top view.
