About this little BmB situation, All I have to say is DON'T FEED THE TROLL.
not really, he didn't say anything informative carve hasn't been accepted by the community nor by valve, since hammer 3.3 and probably even before that. all carve does is showing other people what a terrible mapper someone is. clip & vertex manip. are both better since you can more directly control your brushwork aswell as being sure it's aligned without having to check every vertex
Uh, clip and vertex manipulation is checking every vertex.
meh they just need a selection tool to take parts of brushes and cut them out. not clipping.
In short, Carving makes problems; This thread is a good example.
Uh, clip and vertex manipulation is checking every vertex.
It's quite easy to use vertex manipulation as long as you make a convex shape. If you only ever move two vertices's from top/side/Front viewport at the same time, nothing can ever go wrong. If you chose to move one vertex at a time, it will obviously be hard to keep the convex shape required, but I can't think of a reason why you would only move one vertex at a time.
How about we just conclude that BmB doesn't know how to use hammer and go on with our day, and the thread.
No, I was serious.
Ahhh where is Gigabite when you need him...
Just a sec, let me see if he's online on Steam...(lol)
I can do it in any viewport and any degrees and it would still work.
I don`t know, the arch tool is pretty asinine most of the time. Displacements are easier to make and render, plus they look better. At the slight expense of silesize and compile time, though.
How about no, because then we get leaky ugly pieces of shit when people over-complicate their maps using carve.
Sorry but even if carve were removed, we'd still get leaky ugly pieces of shit.
Sorry but even if carve were removed, we'd still get leaky ugly pieces of shit.
Sadly he's right, cos some people just don't put any effort into their maps at all. Either that, or they don't care. Though I do have to admit, removing the carve function would probably reduce the sheer volume of "leaky ugly pieces of shit" that we see. And about Gigabite, he's online but not responding :frown:
