[QUOTE=Map Review;22405163]Thank you, however it has been decided there will be no rating system because that would require a standard, a worst, and a best. Standards are difficult in video gaming and especially Source. Also, there will be no site.[/QUOTE] But there is a standard of maps on this site. We do not know who is writing this, and thus we cannot make assumptions onto your skill or knowledge. I suspect this isn't terrenteller as you mentioned skill for a first map. No first map will be great, but with the wealth of tutorials out there, there is no excuse for a poor map. Also, a review should be more than a couple of paragraphs. You can go into sound, performance, graphics. All of this is important when creating an atmosphere...something which is important in source...if you know anything about source.

However a standard is one-way, and only applies to more skilled mappers who bash the same sort of maps that would have been acceptable five years ago. This standard is not understood by new mappers, and it should not bring them down for simply being new.

Here is a better idea than just leaping out and doing a bunch of reviews. Put a Q and A thread in the mapping forum first. Sound the idea, and give people a proper place to ask questions. Why do i have a chilling suspicion that the "map review" account is really 3kliks?

[QUOTE=IronPhoenix;22418862]Why do i have a chilling suspicion that the "map review" account is really 3kliks?[/QUOTE] Its not. I know the guy on steam.
[QUOTE=Big_Adam;22416419]Some more feedback. We fired it up on the server and most of the Rawr build members seemed to like it. Only thing is, too many buttons and doors. You got the multi-storey car park, then there's a smaller one next to it. Ditch the small one, can't see any use for it. So for doors, you got a door, room, door, elevator bit to go deep underground. Why the two doors and the room? Stick two big elevators in instead, but make them so they work opposite to each other, so if ones up the other is down. Saves on the problem of getting to the elevators and then finding there isn't one.[/QUOTE] yeah, i like my func_movelinears :) oh, the little 4 floor thing with a lift was my first attempt at trying to do a multi floor lift with a func_movelinear, i made it in the map, and never deleted it after building the big one.. i kept debating removing it, but never did. and yeah, i like the idea of the two lifts.. as it does take a really long time for it to get from one end to the other :s... oh and i put the 2 doors in (with areaportals) to try and completley separate the top and bottom halves of the map, sort of like an areaportal airlock... to try and contain lagg.. or something, like i have for the spawnroom, but i sorta put a big room between the 2 doors.. so it kind of ended up being a build room too. :) ..and thanks for playing it, and all the feedback! :D

[QUOTE=Map Review;22431482]This account may surprise you and surpass your expectations.[/QUOTE] So far i am surprised you started posting without any real introduction as to who you are or your previous work...in order to give your reviews some clout. Does that count?
[QUOTE=Map Review;22431482]This account may surprise you and surpass your expectations.[/QUOTE] so ''this account'' will review every single map that appears on the release section..?
[QUOTE=IronPhoenix;22436042]So far i am surprised you started posting without any real introduction as to who you are or your previous work...in order to give your reviews some clout. Does that count?[/QUOTE] This account need not specify anything outside of reviewing maps. [QUOTE=Pringles.;22440052]so ''this account'' will review every single map that appears on the release section..?[/QUOTE] Indeed, that is the goal, determination.
[QUOTE=Map Review;22442071]This account need not specify anything outside of reviewing maps. Indeed, that is the goal, determination.[/QUOTE] Infact it does. For you to be taken seriously, you need some weight behind the reviews. Newer mappers will not accept criticism from anyone who does not show that they know what it is like to map. The criticism process is enforced by the fact that people who give it have that weight behind them. Let me use an example. The escapist makes video map reviews. He has built up a reputation for being very hard to please, as he is an indy game dev himself. He has a face and a reputation. If he says a game is good, it is because he cannot find fault with it. But that reputation is the main thing that people understand. You cannot be a faceless mask. Anyway...we are spamming this guys thread, maybe you might want to actually post something in general chat (as previously commented) explaining what it is you are doing, rather than just doing it. Th way you have just started makes me doubt that you are one of the established mappers here. So how about you remove that mask?
:iia: I cannot saying anything more, I finaly found a use to my crappy Adv. Duped cars

It's a little too dark, so brightening it up would make it a little better. IF possible, add a sort of offroad track with trees and such, that would add to the map a lot. Also, is adv. ballsocket broken, or does the map not have a "north"? Adv. Dup seems not to work on this map.

Top of a spray is always north.
Reminds me of Carmageddon.
Nah, Carmageddon was a bit more dark than this, scratch that, alot more dark.
So, i have released a new version of this map! that is, gm_drivingmap_mk1-91 it builds from the last one, making it bigger and better. So, here are some new screenshots of this map :) [IMG]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-24_00001.jpg[/IMG] Spawn: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00005.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-17_00004.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Outside: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-17_00002.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Car test area: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-17_00006.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-17_00001.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Nustandys area: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00001.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00009.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00010.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00011.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Drag strip and surface water: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00004.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00003.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Underground: [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-17_00005.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00008.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00007.jpg[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo247/BgT1990/BgT/m1-91/2011-03-20_00006.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Updated List of features: Main features of the map (mk1-91) -main focus toward driving/building -race track -extended offroad area -upgraded car test area -multiple private build rooms -nicer 3d skybox -upgraded dark underground cavern -underground water area -areaportaled* off spawn room -areaportals* on EVERY door -teleporters from near spawn room to main map areas -not fullbright -everything needed (hopefully) packed into bsp (custom textures etc) -optimised (as much as I could) -no noclip friendly (you can walk everywhere, and not get locked out of rooms if you die in them somehow) -extended map area (no nasty repeating boundry wall) -general improvements over last version NEW! -now includes a specialised off road driving area by off road addict NutsAndy -drag strip (measuring exactly 14117 hammer units long from start line to finish line (661.734375 feet)) -Surface water area And yet again, i probably will continue to mess with this map in the future and gladly accept any comments/criticisms :) [b]Download:[/b] [url=http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=119371][img]http://www.garrysmod.org/img/?t=dll&id=119371[/img][/url]
Awesome map, thanks :) Let's testing :D
Tell me you added cubemaps. edit: it is cubemapped, i love you
Nice, when I saw the OP post-date I expected some mindless idiot to have bumped this :v: Thanks for the update
dl link do not work?
Mr BgT, I say, its a mighty fine map and one of only 3 good offroaders, I really do like it. One minor criticism, could you make the big cave lighter? Not all the time, add a big light switch or something, just be nice to be able to see a bit better underground. And if you added train tracks around the map (with hills, none of this flat loop stuff, I want to test a train to the limits) then it would be an orgasm of a map.
Heh, a train suspension test would be great.
The new version looks great. Going to try it out tomorrow.
my nephew can only se purple and black ,he does have the same games as me.. and i can se the whole map except the cave texture underground, erhm, where can i fix the materials you used so we can fix this?
