I am going for the halo type of look.
Also, the Halo 2 street border original might look better than my shitty edit:

If you are going for the "halo" look, then I'll glady donate some futuristic (A lot of em, actually) textures into your possession.

Sorry, but I want these in this thread.
I think there is something wrong happening there.
You do?
Oh wow, sexy.

Hopefully the illumination on the lights will fix the not so fitting black shadows that happen on them.
post the ssbump
For those who wants to see what it looked like before my first edit.
This is it:

I sized it up and edited the shapes to look more like it does ingame.

The only thing that I think remains now for the texture is shiny specular and a more high res and clean looking base texture look than the tiny one I showed on previous page.
Looking like "I" managed to make the neon lights look better than in halo 2.
Almost so I think nothing more is necessary. Looks so good.
Thank you Firegod522.
Would be awesome with parallax mapping.
Would be awesome with parallax mapping.
I think that is overkill at this moment.
Also I want this in GMod so no I do not think we can do parallax mapping.
Would be awesome with parallax mapping.
Hell no, we need tessellation.
Hell no, we need tessellation.
Yes we do!
I am worthless when it comes to textures so that is why I am asking anyone here on facepunch to please help me fix these two very simple textures to look more realistic and less cartoon y.
I am tired of hearing complainants so many times that they look like that. So I give up on editing them.
The main road. 4 lanes 8 neon lights, shiny metal and metal everywhere.
[img_thumb]http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/6292/halo2streetmain01.png[/img_thumb]
Yes I know. A road texture in that size should at least be 2048x1024 but the Halo 2 road textures tiny size does not make that any easier.
Yeah sure, if you are able to fix the road texture and border in that size, go for it.
It came with 512x256 so I doubled it up in try to make it look better, obviously failed.
The road border. This texture is supposed to be as high or double up the height of the road texture.
Two neon lights on it, the rest is metal.
[img_thumb]http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/7130/halo2streetborder01.png[/img_thumb]
As few of you can see I modified the original halo 2 textures to look like this.
If someone of you edits the texture out please keep the neon lights main colour type, just try make them and the rest more realistic.
Even edit out the mess I made for random patterns and shapes completely, as long as it looks better and more realistic.
I hope you can see whats lower and whats higher in the textures.
The stuff I do in a year on Gimp is what I think most of you here can manage to do in one hour on PS.
If you dont mind me asking... how did you get those textures civil?
If you dont mind me asking... how did you get those textures civil?
From my leader: ¦5k3¦ [-B-]
Ok what "I" need most is specular.
Firegod522 do you have specular on there?
I can not see
After that comes a modified base look of the texture instead of the 4 pixels holding formation from the previous low res textures.
Anyone agrees with me that the base of the texture which is using this:

Needs to be changed?
Please fix it up someone.
The base texture in OP.

Those are beautiful. I didn't even know the Source Engine could do that good of a job on textures. They always seem flat and ugly.

Source doesn't do anything. Mappers do ;)
Source doesn't do anything. Mappers do ;)
lol true.
tbh though ssbump looks nicer. Its also cheaper to render for some reason.
Less sampling on global lighting.
I tried recreating it from scratch, but it didn't go as well as I had hoped. I'm no good outside of Blender. The AO and ssbump/normal might be useful, but note that it doesn't line up to the original 100%.

Self Illumination

Ssbump (based off normal map)

That ssbump is horrible. It has no ambient occlusion to it.
[editline]16th October 2010[/editline]
Everything else looks nice though.
To get 100% from Firegod522s and ProjectNinetys textures someone has to fix the base texture to look better:

It still got the horrible look from the 512x old texture.

I am having a hard time saying which of your textures look better.

Looks great, going to work on it when I get time.

It's your texture, man. You should do at least something too.
It's your texture, man. You should do at least something too.
Yeah I know. I will.
I think I am done. Might have missed something somewhere but I made it look a little cleaner on the middle part.

The scratches still look low res.
I attempted modelling it for a cool effect but I sort of failed as it would require subdivision to look good which I'm not very good at.
But if someone could do that, use some nifty rendering settings, perhaps have a pre-baked blue glow, new scratches (I'm thinking from L4D/2) it would be awesome.
I am too unable to make it look like this:

Hope this will help the more skilled people to know what they should be going for a look on it.
You can still see that I got the shapes right for most of the part.
