Just found out my 8-year old brother looks up bondage and latex slave suits on YouTube.
They start younger and younger. :patriot:

Why so professional?
You could've got a DSLR and some good lenses for the same price I bet.

Because I'm a filmmaker, not a photographer.

DSLRs do film better than most professional cameras.
Like seriously, how much did you pay for that camera?

I'm not going to tell you if you keep trying to get me down after I just blew most of my savings on this thing.
While DSLRs may do film better, these things are dedicated to filming and have a TON more bells and whistles geared towards non-photo than DSLR cameras do.

I myself go for DSLRS since they're under a grand for a body nowadays. Speaking of which I joined yearbook for access to their 60D arsenal, can't wait to try out the video on it this fall. Spend a good 30 minutes looking at one at Costco, even though there was no SD card in it :v:

Entire video was shot on DSLRS, by the way.
Though I am jealous of your camera.

I love that depth of field effect going on.
Also dont feel bad on how much you spent on your camera, I bought an iPad. :v:

Just slap magic bullet over your footage in after effects and call it DOF
I love that depth of field effect going on.
Not being elitist, but good luck getting that soft of depth of field with a sony camcorder. I'm only saying about DSLRs because of the amount of shit we have to put up with from the film cameras we use in college. Seriously, I'd rather film it on my 600D but noooo - not allowed to do that because it's a digital camera and we have to use shitty minidv tapes.
Obviously yours is compact flash or SD but still, depth of field is nice.
Anyway, can anyone tell the difference between deferred flashlight and valve's shitty projected textures?
[t]http://puu.sh/AzSC[/t]
That's deferred, just using valve's spotlight cookie texture. ;_;
It's obviously the green that's deferred, the lighting is coming out softer
edit: any depth of field for me is good, I had to put up with a shitty Nikon S8200 while making a movie. Good film quality, but battery only lasted 30 minutes and the lens system failed on our second day of filming ;_;

It's all deferred. Valve's shitty flashlight isn't even enabled in the deferred codebase, Biohazard just parented a deferred spotlight with the flashlight cookie texture from alien swarm set to the viewmodel muzzle. It looks cool when you draw the deagle because the flashlight spins around with it.
Also why would deferred lighting make light appear softer? The attenuation can be changed easily with this sure, but it doesn't make it any different.
Oh and uh, uhoh. Lens failure sucks when you're trying to film something before a deadline.

I dunno, just saw hard angles on the red side and none of that on the green.

Well the light is just rotated, but if there was a forward-lit implementation of dpsm + cubemap texture light cookies then it would be the exact same I guess - it would just run like shit / be limited like Skyrim's DPSM.
DPSM = the point light shadowmapping system, dual paraboloid means instead of using 6 view frusta to make a single point light shadow setup, you can use two but have to warp all geometry into a hemisphere (which means if you have low poly geo, it'll stay straight during that warp and then the unwarp process done when projecting the shadows will bend that straight line seen as it'll be in the pixel shader stage) making huge ass ugly leaks like this:

But with high poly geometry it's perfect.

you need to work for Valve
you need to work for Valve
I didn't make this though, I'm just bored and playing with it / adding to the test map. I just understand how things work, doesn't mean I have the time, patience or even want to do game development professionally. I'm interested in photography and would like to persue that, game related stuff is just a hobby.
Biohazard is the person who should be working for Valve, but I'm sure he will eventually.
He also made the extreme dinosaurs mod and the Source Shader Editor - so his talent is pretty much a given.

It seems Biohazard fixed the offset with his cascaded shadowmapping, before it looked kinda fugly when transitioning.

Notice how the cascades are now perfectly aligned. :D

Never mind.

I don't understand what your point is, I get well over 150 fps on this map. The point is it's dynamic lighting, in Source.
Plus it's not shitty and fake like what that other retard made before, that thing the ivan's secrets dev showed off like it was something incredible.
Not sure what you're talking about. Link, please and how is it fake?
Might be late, but is there a way to download it, if so what would I have to do to set it up?

Putting 4 orthographic projected textures over the top of each other at different height distances != cascaded shadowmapping.
The clue is right in the name, cascaded implies that it does not overlap shadow frustums, instead they are cascaded along the main view frustum to provide a long shadow distance.

That piece of shit, is not csm.

http://swarm-deferred.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/build/SwarmDeferred for the mod (checkout into a folder in sourcemods)

More devs should take a leaf out of biohazard's book, this is the best spotlight shadowing I've seen in a very long time...

Absolutely no banding even with the far distance set to 2048, and oh look no huge offset to prevent said banding either. :v:
1 hour late, but what's my future job? :D

wat
Obviously I don't mean the filtering, but the depth bias and lack of shadow acne are pretty damn impressive.
