Dunno about you guys, but I find that maps which don't contain custom assets tend to look/feel incomplete. It's kind of why I expanded out beyond just mapping to learn the ways of texture and model creation. Very valuable skills, even for someone who maps as a hobby.
I agree, however if your modelling learn UV mapping early on it makes things easier.
I agree, however if your modelling learn UV mapping early on it makes things easier.
Yeah definitely. If you can UV a model consistently and efficiently, then it makes things a lot easier. Means your textures won't look odd-sized or skew, makes AO baking easier and just generally helps the texture making process. There's things you can do with models that make the mapping process so much easier. An example is when I made some bunker doors with a model and animated it to open in an interesting way. Then to trigger the whole system it resulted in about half the entity work needed for brush equivalents.

A big issue with source is that everything is so static. The screenshots from cs:go look amazing but I can only imagine the cables moving and little else.
Source conveys realism really well though, most things in real life are static when nobody is around. Shame that its editor is still stuck in the 90s
I started up a blog because I'm an attention whore etc. I'll probably post wip stuff that doesn't belong in pimpage, as well as some that do qualify.
Source conveys realism really well though, most things in real life are static when nobody is around. Get rid of carve and hollow and actually intergrate the tools into the editor, rather than tacking them on whereever they will fit.
It desperatly needs a recode. Get rid of carve and hollow and actually intergrate the tools into the editor, rather than tacking them on whereever they will fit.
It's not that it needs a recode it just needs revamping, the editor needs to be script-based rather than entity based and the UI needs to be more along the lines of UDK or a 3D modelling tool. Needs to be streamlined more, basically.

Especially not when they have morons like Jason Mitchell who break everything.

Also, compared to other editors, it is an utter pain to get custom content into the editor. In unity, you can save your blender file in the assets directory, and it will autoimport the model and the animations automatically.
I really like the ease of use it has going for it. I have a small attention span and that is the only reason I was able to learn it. The entities help with the ease of use.

I'm going to go take some pictures in case someone is looking for reference material.
dude, why is CS:GO so... colorless? [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] i recently made this and things can look very realistic when they're colorful: even l4d2 was pretty damn colorful, they worked a lot with colors and that's what made it so pretty. cs:go is so... desaturated.
I dunno I think that's still pretty dull and brown
I have lots of pieces of paper, does that mean I have lots of degrees? :V Woo.
As long as you scrawl on it with a crayon which one is for what, then yes. That is all they are worth without experience.
Got this through the mail today, can't wait to laugh at how easy it'll be to pass.
Got this through the mail today, can't wait to laugh at how easy it'll be to pass.
Good luck anyway.
Good luck anyway.
Yeah, shouldn't be much harder than the level 1 I did last year. At least it'll be somewhat long unlike the Alcohol Awareness one I did, I finished the exam in 5 minutes when it was supposed to last an hour, and I got a certificate. Not my fault the questions were easy and you didn't have to write anything. Simple multiple choice exam lol. Uggh, my head feels so cloudy like I'm about to get a headache, maybe it's going to thunderstorm later / tomorrow.
Should I just open a new thread for my reference materials?

Well it still looks amazing but you know what I mean :D

Has anyone gone into CS:S to test their map, and some random dude joins? I did, and apparently they live in my neighborhood.
