Should try to do sketches and such, even if they don't come out right, they really help when you're trying to visualise something in your head, which can't fully see in your minds eye, or whatever you wanna call it...

Meh, there's definitely more Asian people, just not seen in the game. There were only like 6 main characters (AND IF DICE WOULD MAKE A SEQUEL ALREADY THERE'D BE MORE SDIAFBSDFISF).

You could pull that off, you got a nack for those natural environments. The lake might be tricky but you could have a plane underneath the water level helping to dark it up and add some of those weeds. The building would just be a few custom models and textures. Raid oblivion for its castle related models!
Oblivion's textures and models are lowpoly.
I can do much better than them with just source.

Good point, but the architecture is weirdly similar.
Why don't you look into making something from the lake district in england. Its got some immense landscapes and beautiful scenary. Most of the building are built from slate with moss growing everywhere.
I took a trip there once and me and my brother climbed 1 of the cliffs. To get there it was climbing up a wall at the side of the road, then through a really mossy oak forest, then onto shingle and mossy boulders, then an expanse of shattered rock and slate with dead tress growing from the cracks then up the cliff face. Inspiring area.
I got a few photos if anyone is interested.

The assets have nothing to do with the engine, though. A better comparision would be Oblivion and Half-Life 2: Episode Two
