So I go into the FPSC forums to look for a member, apparently all the kiddies on the forum made him mad and now he has left the forums for good. His last hurrah was proving to everyone that the engine can handle 500,000 polygons, heck the engine has gotten some good optimizations through fourm member contributions that he got 80 fps in this scene. [img_thumb]http://www.imagehost.co.za/image-EEC0_500AE472.jpg[/img_thumb] 37 FPS when he put AI, weapons, entities. Yet people still bitched at him about something not quite sure. To the point however, I think I am just going to give Unity a spin, I have tried to actually get a custom textured segment as a starting point in my game but since it won't bite, I'm going to let it go. I have not used it in months, can someone tell me what new stuff got added? Also a plus to i guess owning it is I have ready made, textured assets that i can legally use! Edit: Holy shit mecanim looks fucking useful, oh god linux support, why did I ever leave it.

There's no use getting all worked up over someone that won't do you any good. A person that doesn't care enough to do it in person is nothing you need, and it's someone you should let go of. Trust me, that might sound really painful to digest and a hell of a lot harder to do, but there's real people out there. Having some issues with Hammer. It's not exactly a mapping issue, and the questions in the megathread are rarely answered, so I guess I'd ask here. I got a new computer and I just reinstalled Source SDK. I launched the HL2 engine in hammer and started trying to map; The Camera window was selectively responsive, and the actual camera doesn't work at all. Bascially, the camera window does nothing, except for every five clicks on a brush, it selects the brush. I can't move the 3D camera at all, either. Anybody know what's going on? I'm willing to go onto Teamview or something to try and fix it.
So im making a CTF map for a game, source mod and we cant use many props, just mostly brush based. What could I do to add more detail to a map?

I'll try again and if I fail, I will commit seppuku.[/QUOTE] all you really have to do is make sure all corners of a displacement match up with another corner. that's about it, they can be any size as long as the one it meets up with have the same size. i'll knock up an example and see if i can't just make it real easy to understand or something.

It really depends on what the theme of the CTF map is, but in a simple alleyway which is just 3 brushes (2 walls and a floor) can be made amazingly detailed by adding trash and graffiti decals, a light sprinkle of dust hazing the floor, and a dimmed, dirty, yellow floodlight above a dooway. For something science-fiction, though, it'd be hard without props.
