I'd need more personal time for that. Every time I try to learn it and make a small map, and get back to it months later, all I've learned is forgotten again. Freakin' Alzheimers. >.<
There's a great book called Half-Life 2 Mods for Dummies, I got it a couple of years ago for Christmas, and it's helped me loads. It explains nearly all the basic functions of Hammer and is great as a reference point. I always keep it by my desk in case I need to quickly look something up that I know is in it. I'd recommend you buy it.
Another thing - when you put tons and tons of work into part of a building, then realise that it's the wrong size.
Losing interest in a project, even if you spent hours on it. It's just like my brain has a timer and it goes like oh this vmf is boring and I forget about Hammer for three months before picking it up again.
i suck at tf2 layouts
Engine version Current Game
Map layouts. Especially street maps, even with Google maps and images. Also, Valve announced they were making a new set of authoring tools, which I hope they are in the process of. I mean, we kind of got a sneak peek of a prototype of the new SDK from the SFM, I'm sure they'll re-do it to the steam style we have now.
Particles
I have the attention span of a goldfish. I literally can not spend hours making maps without getting bored.
The fact that every single fucking entity I place, comes up with a picture of gaben, with a big "Obsolete" under it D:
The fact that every single fucking entity I place, comes up with a picture of gaben, with a big "Obsolete" under it D:
that sounds like a user related problem.
that sounds like a user related problem.
Nope, its because my bloody hamer is broke, even when I load a vmf old enttites I've placed come up as obsolete.
Nope, its because my bloody hamer is broke, even when I load a vmf old enttites I've placed come up as obsolete.
then why don't you just reinstall things?
Working with NPCs. I mean it's not a terribly bad system it's just confusing to understand at first.
Fucking limits. I want to make a minecraft themed map, with the ENTIRE map destructible. But fucking hammer can't do that.
I first started playing around with UDK, but didn't quite like it. Then I found out about the Source SDK, so I could make maps for my favorite Source games. - Turns out Source SDK is crap compared to UDK. :( I hope Valve is going to update it some day...
compiling final 50 mb map. I gotta get my pillow so i can take realy long nap, especial if compiler is set to final.
how vvis acts like an OAP at the controls of an aircraft whenever i make anything that isn't a cube or flat surface
then why don't you just reinstall things?
Tried that, but everything stays the same, It must be backed up on steam cloud or something. And another thing, I can also, map for l4d2, using the other sdk menu thing, but css, tf2, hl2 etc wont work.
When something screws over so badly that the whole map crashes the game when you try launching it Other than that I [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img] everything about mapping

Hammer. Every time I open Hammer I start to miss Radiant... Actually, it's been a while... Does Hammer have brush merging and 3 point clipping yet?
Scrapping a project after working on it for so long because of the lack of motivation to finish it.
the fucking grid
the fucking grid
You can turn it off you know...
You can turn it off you know...
not the grid itself, but when im in a map and snapping things to the grid and decreasing the size, i get a headache lining things and seeing the lines and its just arghhhh
My arch-nemesis, the compile log. Can't understand in about it. Displacements, because sometimes they are reliable and look great if you're doing something small like a backyard, but then do anything larger then that and you get a huge messed up displacement with spikes going everywhere and you can't sew anything together. Then there's lighting, the best I can do is a small bedroom with a light_spot and a small light entity around the source of the light_spot to make it look realistic.
You want to make an awesome map and you separately make all the pieces but when you put them together hammer tells you it is too detailed.
Building things that aren't at 90 degree angles.
Textures are almost all made for the 120 height and anything a pixel more makes the whole thing look like shit.
