All of my maps look like first maps :suicide:

This was about 9 years ago. Welcome to my 12 year old mind. Good times...

My first map actually got me banned from facepunch for a week on a different account. EDIT: 420th post OOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOL

I had to dig through my old photobucket account from 7 years ago to find this. My first map is a box covered with dev textures where I tested various stuff. Right before I lost the vmf it had skybox ceiling, sky lighting, a couple of props, a displacement, a water pool, a wall with a rising gate and a door, a button that opens the gate and finally, a camera coupled with func_monitor. This is also the only original map I have ever created in Hammer, I've only been tweaking and editing others' maps so far. The good thing is that I read about leaks and visibility optimization on VDC very early so I never had problems with either of that.
My first ever attempt at a hammer map, made roughly back in 2006-2007 when I didn't know how to make a working skybox or light entity. Yes I uploaded a YouTube video just for this occasion, it's even in 60fps!
Here's "ware.vmf", my first map from 2009: It started off as a simple warehouse, but slowly grew to be a weird chain of convoluted tasks.
:words:
I find it quite funny that his emotion changes quickly after finishing his statement.
My first map was a failed attempt at making a hl1 themed hl2 ep2 map, where you played quite specifically as the barney you see at the lambda complex before entering the teleport room. I got lighting to work and had made vortigaunts enemies. I had make these little "cave ins" where rocks would fall from the ceiling. Overall it was pretty good for learning but the ai was a mess without any nodes and terrible enemy placement. Combined with bad layout. All I have left hinting it's existence are the little images that go on the half life 2 save files. After that I found out about ai nodes and made a bunch of test maps to experiment with the combine soldier ai. which is pretty fun. One of the better ones was been a map where 2 separate teams of combine. 1 red 1 green. Go against each-other in a dev texture arena. I had built nothing to tell the combine what to do just gave them all the nodes to understand the arena and let them fight. I also added a button that let the player replace one of the green soldiers. Giving them the smg and the exact health of a combine, and removing health kits as to make it as much like controlling a combine soldier as possible. That one I still have if someone wants to see.
pretty sure this was the first thing I actually released on a website for download(?) [t]http://files.gamebanana.com/img/ss/maps/_9866-.jpg[/t][t]http://files.gamebanana.com/img/ss/maps/_9867-.jpg[/t] at least it shows me the insane amount I've improved over the years
I have no images, but it was a really poorly made apocalypse map with awful terrain and some solid buildings.
I started off hammer first by modifying existing maps-- but the first time I ever made an original map was in some attempt to create a "horror" game in Source SDK.
I started off hammer first by modifying existing maps-- but the first time I ever made an original map was in some attempt to create a "horror" game in Source SDK.
Yeah same, I modified gg_sunday_street and released ttt_sunday_street. My first original map isn't too terribly bad brush wise because I learned a lot with sunday street but my foresight was awful and the layout is pretty bad
There's mine: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=393793498 Not proud ://
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/JoaenUD.jpg[/img_thumb] I made this about 5 years ago. I don't have many good images of it, but it was one the first maps that I every really put effort into. Although, far before that, I created this box.
Reminds me of my first and second TF2 maps. I still don't like conforming to the grid much. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZK0ZI5x.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/igd20bV.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/3UcXR0P.jpg[/t] At this point I still hadn't learned what Nodraw is
My first map was a tf2 map using only snow assets. I remember that my displacement work was HORRENDOUS.
The first map I played with in Hammer was 2fort from TF2. I deleted all the prop_statics and somehow opened up the map to the void. Huh. My first map that I made with my bare hands was for the Source SDK 2013 mod, Team Fortress 2 Classic, and I made it almost 2 months ago. It had poor sightlines, closed in areas, and all that fun stuff. I somewhat improved it by adding displacements and sealing, but it's still pretty bad. I made my first map around 2005ish, it was; -768x768 units big -fullbright -had carved brush for the terrain -a pond with the cheapest dx70 water texture -a 320x192 house with 64 unit thick walls. such majesty...
My school map is my first serious project with the hammer editor. I've never released any of my maps because I'm shit at finishing things. I attempted a mall map with the hammer editor YEARS ago, but I'll be damned if I can find the file. So, have a picture of a REALLY early revision of my school map, before I learned that lighting and custom props go a LONG way toward making your map look less amateur. My first map was a giant box made out of floor tile with pile of breen npcs, I used it for sandbox purposes. I dont have it anymore. But then my attempts of mapping was looking like this: [THUMB]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10156182/scr/map020007.jpg[/THUMB][thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10156182/scr/map020001.jpg[/thumb] I also attempted to map a head for headless statue.

About three years ago, I made an "apocalyptic city" map, it was a few shitty buildings and jagged dirty terrain, one building also had a ton of graffiti all over it and a ton of posters, it was pretty bad. Oops, just realized I already posted here.
My first ever map, was a map made buy following the base tutorial for hammer. But after that, my first real map that I ever released was Green Flower Zone Act 1 Remade for Gmod. We've had a ton of Sonic series models, but no real good maps to use them in. So I figured Green Flower Zone would be a good one.
This was my first released map. A full bright, blocky white maze for HL2 Team deathmatch. It was actually a really fun and popular map (on one server) back when HL2DM was in its prime :) [thumb]http://i62.tinypic.com/e1d9c2.jpg[/thumb][thumb]http://i61.tinypic.com/10r34h2.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i57.tinypic.com/w6wksp.jpg[/thumb]
I attempted to recreate a planet from Super Mario Galaxy, one that was made of water, only failed terribly when the sky turned glitchy and water into pink and black squares.
