Does archaeology and the findings related to archaeology count as scientific horror?
Also, would scientific horror count as any horror caused by any kind of science? Science has existed for a couple of centuries. Amnesia: Dark Descent comes to mind. Hell, even medieval magic could count as an early form of science.
Lets just change the theme to horror...

The snow, not yet heavy enough to settle, churned the mud and hay on the ground into a stinking slush. The clouds occluding the soon emitted a dull twilight across the wooden village. It has been 2 nights since the doctors had arrived. At first they had only burnt the dead and dying. Now anybody was viable for destruction. The witches affliction had seeped into the very wood and stone of the village. Etc etc etc

I meant sci-fi horror but I forgot sci-fi was not (SCI)enti(FI)c at the middle of the night. Like I said it is sci-fi horror but it has to have elements of more advanced technology. I was just using deadspace and doom as examples because they were the two I was most familiar with. I don't want to change it to plain horror, I feel like that'd be way too broad of a contest.
Okay, I just wanted to ask...
The next contest should really be a broad one. I couldn't think of a single good, original space horror idea, but I had tons for other kinds of science horror. I guess I'll consult my partner.

On my bookshelf i have deathworld, a book that occurs on three different planets, there is space travel, but the majority takes place on the worlds...i would see that as scifi. The warhammer 40k books, again, mostly on planet stuff, but takes place in a world where their science is our fiction. Peace and War, Hitchhikers guide, Strata, it is all science fiction, taking place in the future where science has evolved. A slight twist is soemthing like fallout or day of the triffids. They take place in a past that isn't our own, but still can count as scifi, as it is a science that has moved differently to our own. So...here are some examples my mind can conjure up. 1. Blacksite/Black Project- off the radar experiments gone wrong 2. Deathworld/Prisonworld/Fortressworld- dark and creepy, catacombs, forbidden technology, ancient mysticism. 3. Progressive Earth- earth in the furture, is it a world teeming with life, or has it been abandoned...have things been released from cages, have doors opened that should have stayed shut. A freind of mine was talking about the signs that are made for nuclear storage facilities. He told me that they have to factor in that the people finding these storage facilities might be finding them in the far flung future, when the languages have changed (or that the person finding them isn't human), so the puzzle comes from what to put on the sign. A radiation symbol would be good for citizens of earth, but what about a race that uses different signs...it could be like us and hyroglyphs. There are other examples of this...basically, i am saying that archiologists and explorers are very good at digging into places they shouldn't. Society moves on, but all kinds of timebombs are left untouched.
I'm all for science fiction horror. Though in a way you could say 28 days later and I am legend are sci fi horror. Horror arising from science. As an offtopic thing does anybody remember that nuclear thing they planned on burying in finland, 1 of the discussions was how to stop future generations from digging there, what languages to use etc to ensure that 1000s of years into the future nobody digs up a large mass of nuclear waste by accident.
Put my name down, I'll see what I can come up with.

OP updated, I'll ask a few of the mods to see if any of them will get the title changed to " The Facepunch Mapping Contest V16 - Sci-Fi Horror "...in the mean time that's what it is supposed to be and take Phoenix's description to heart. -- Thread Title updated thanks to Megafan, also updated OP with new banner.
Im in, movies are ok too right? because I have an idea that I would like to experiment with.

Does Frankenstein in his lab count as "Sci-Fi"? Because to all those Hippies back then, they thought we'd have floating cars and crap like that in the year 2000.

Exploring the consequences of scientific innovations is one purpose of science fiction, making it a "literature of ideas".[1]
Sounds about right [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline] Woops no content yet, map is still nodraw
The beginning of my entry, Alien survival horror map.
OP Updated - Added Zero Hour. TO CLARIFY: You can use Source Filmmaker as long as you can present it during the judging in viewable format.

If you guys want any inspiration, you should watch the movie "Event Horizon."
Not sure if I can carry on since I just discovered some kind of "trojan horse dropper" in my system.exe Going to try to fix but not sure how long it will take. Good luck to you all.
