• How do i protect my map from Decompilers?
I remember back in the day when I first started mapping, I was asked to add stuff to a crappy jailbreak map, so I decompiled it and added the requested crap, I recently found this map on my hard drive and almost broke down into tears from what I'd done, I'd make a blocky, fullbright piece of shit, look worse :ohdear:
If you feel some need to redeem yourself or something maybe you should try taking that file you found and turning it into a quality map, worthy of release. All those CS:S custom gamemodes (like the zombie mod and jailbreak) could really use some maps made by people that know what they're doing, too.
I don't see the big deal about map decompilers, usually the ones trying to steal maps are just endless drama over really shitty maps. Any good maps are generally traceable to the original author. I believe VMEX was developed with the intention of being educational, in case you found something in a map that you had no idea how to accomplish yourself. If anyone tries to decompile a good map, as long as you make your presence known when you make the map, the stealer will always get force-fed with bullshit. You could add some sort of secret signature to your map, if you are really that worried. I do remember for GoldSrc there was Action HL and one of the mappers for it used to create extremely extensive and very odd well-hidden easter eggs that actually comprised of most of the map. You couldn't use cheats, and you couldn't decompile it, as far as I know. But that's GoldSrc, and I doubt whatever method he used would work for you.
As said, protection from decompiling is near impossible, but if you want to give the prick who decompiled your map hell, shift the entire map slightly off-grid right or rotate it by 17.3 degrees directly before the final compile.

Everyone's maps get decompiled, which isn't such a huge deal. However, decompiling and stealing it is a whole different story, and on facepunch, everybody pretty much backs up the original creator.
put a password on it
I don't even know a single case when someone decompiled my map and claimed it as it's own. So thats not a threat.
put a password on it
You don't seem to know what you're talking about.
You don't seem to know what you're talking about.
I think it was a joke... No one is that stupid.
RustySpannerz;28420919']I think it was a joke... No one is that stupid.
Oh, you'd be surprised.
Any good maps are generally traceable to the original author.
This. A thousand times this. Good maps look distinctive, therefore good mappers make distinctive maps. Good maps stand out. People remember maps that stand out. Ergo, anyone decompiling maps will be called out near-instantly if they try to pass off a well-known map as their own work. Obvious solution: Become a good mapper and make memorable maps and your fans will protect your work for you.
yes it was a fucking joke
