God...looks like I need 2 gigs of ram first before I can play this fluently :S
This lags far too much. :(
Definetly.
finaly! its is finaly here!!!!
What a shame, this doesn't run on linux:
./srcds_run: line 344: 17671 Segmentation fault $HL_CMD Add "-debug" to the ./srcds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help with solving this problem Fri Jul 28 06:12:20 BST 2006: Server restart in 10 seconds

get windows!
Which texturees are missing?
There's missing tetures on the asteroid, on some of the computers (the floor that the bridge is on), the escape pod fins that are detached, the spawner cover on the asteroid base (that goes over the table, and comes back up revealing the item). By the way, great, great, job, if anyone here doesn't give you a five, there's something wrong with them; it's the most fun I've ever had in an rp map. The core blew up, escape pods were jettisoned, and I had to go in a salvage ship to retrieve them. Awesome job.
The memorial made me sad
EDIT: Here are some bugs: It is possible to get into the cannon. I did it before, but not without heavy use of noclip, which keeps dropping out for some reason. I turn it on and go in one direction, andit lags and then sends me at super speed through the wall, out into space, and then it drops out again and kills me. I hate that. Anyway, it's just too hard to get into the cannon. Also, it's quite annoying trying to build a ship. Since the buttons are so close together, I almost always push the wrong one, so I go in, destroy the engines to start over, but I can't move and get out, so I blow up. I ended up easy welding the console door to the cieling, because I didn't want to keep lugging power modules over there. It's obscenely hard to get into the ships. 'Nuff said. The asteroid base is inaccessible without noclip. I don't lag much playing this by myself; it runs quite smoothly actually, but on a server, my ping was about 300 on average, and 931 at the highest. And when the reactor is blowing up; 532 ping. It also spikes with each explosion and warning text. Missing textures. The crane can grab stuff, but it's keeping a grip that's hard. I picked something up, but it didn't move; instead it spazzzed and jerked around, lagging a lot. It's next to impossible to reset the genreator without using noclip. The bulkheads seal off and don't unseal! The explosion effects don't look quite as... cinematic as they should. Despite all this, it's still a map worthy of a 5. Though, there is no real use of the actual main hangar, other than to get parts. Perhaps there used to be ship spawners there, but you had to take them out?
Best. Roleplay map. Ever. Yay! Scotty, beam me up!
Dude, I love you...in a good way..right :)?
HOLY CRAP! Can you make this into a ZIP format? IM BEGGING YOU!!!!
Looks good can't wait to play it. Edit: Ok I've started playing on it and these are my critisisms: 1. It lags way too much, even with 1 player; 2. Noclip won't work. It is a fantastic map great job.
The most accurate way I can describe this is by comparing it to another monumental Roleplaying achievment. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was well accomplished, slightly flawwed and fairly brilliant. So is this map, but that's what patches are for, no? ;)
Its... it’s so bright, its so beautiful. Its like, wow! I mean this is almost orgasmic!
Hey people, one thing. The lag issues depend on your computer and the server you're playing on. Don't complain about lag because I just hosted a private server a few hours ago with 6 good rpers on my computer and I experienced no lag nor did my fellow rpers complain of any. So it is possible to be essentially lag free on this map. (I have a higher end computer just so you know. -dual core 2.7 opteron and an x1900xt ) I'm not trying to be a jerk and brag, I'm just saying that the map is well made, just has a lot of stuff. I found that there's actually more lag when you play it in single player for some dumb reason.
Not lying. That was one of the best RP games I have had for the longest time. Anyways, noclip is neutralized as soon as you clip out of the ship because of the lua gravity script that is running. Seiteki explained it, just look below.
I can answer the noclip problem. The [gravity] script that I made for the map checks if you are touching space or not, if you are, you move into MOVETYPE_FLY otherwise you go into MOVETYPE_WALK.
Anyways, this is a great map, just fix the textures, and make access to the customizable ships a tad easier and I'd be happy. It'd ALSO be nice if I got the pass to the asteriod *Glances at Zeddy*
thank you
No problem, I had already taken a screenshot when you started asking anyways, heh. First of all, this map is amazing. It runs surprisingly well considering it's size, and it does that without looking like a complete pile of shit. It is defiantly worthy of all the five ratings it has received, including mine. however, like most big maps, there are some rather annoying flaws that keep me from truly enjoying the map. First of all, the miniship customization system is almost completely unusable by me. I don't mean the system is broken per say, just incredibly frustrating. while making the power cores and other items was a fantastic idea, in execution it ends up being a bit of a pain in the ass. I could see how in Rp servers you could have a "dedicated power core delivery person" or whatever, but in single player it just a big hassle. I honestly wouldn't have even brought it up though, if that frustration wasn't further compounded by the fact that once you finally get a core up to the ship hangers, you need to spend another frustrating amount of time trying to enter the freaking ship. I spent about two hours trying to successfully make and enter a ship last night, only to accidentally die in the vacuum when I somehow managed to eject myself. Needless to say, that experience kind of marred the otherwise great experience I had on the map. also, as long as we're talking about that subject, why can I walk normally in all the other hangers when they are closed, but the miniship hangers are near impossible to move in? *whoops, my whining about no clip was already answered. Thanks Seiteki. never mind, found the thruster packs. Thanks anyways Shs. Since I’m basically just repeating the same old things other have said, I have to say I honestly loved the map. Flaws withstanding, it's still an amazingly fun map, and I had loads of fun with it just messing around. As regards to the asteroid base, and the props it makes. From what I understand, Lazer wanted to have mine able asteroids in the map. My guess is on a Rp server, the goal is that eventually the crew members will get into the asteroid base, and use the props it makes to power the generator in the main hanger.
There's one more bug I found while playing this single player (every server with it is full). I blew up the reactor (again), and ater noclipping through the ship to get to the reactor reset button, I pushed it, but alas, the bulkhead doors did not open up again. They stayed shut. Also, the bulkhead doors make it impossible to reset the power core if the server doesn't have noclip enabled. So if there's no noclipping allowed, you're stuck in whatever part of the ship you spawned in. I suggest having a bulkhead door override button to open the doors. That should eliminate anty problem. This suggestion isn't really pointed at you, Lazer, but to whoever you said is touching up the map. EDIT: The thruster packs are in the armory; you can also spawn them with your SWEP menu (The armory is on the third floor I think).
Dude this map looks so sick giving this a 5 for sure!
I was afraid this wasn't uploaded anywhere else but rapidshare. I couldn't download your old maps for days because you used rapidshare. I would check back so often until it was finally uploaded. Anyway, as incredible is an understatement, I will just award you with a shiny five and a thanks.
Stupid ship won't blow up, nuked every part of the ship... Twice from both sides and pulled the reactor self destruct thing and nothings happening.
finaly! its is finaly here!!!! get windows!
That's the first time I've ever heard that, and I sincerely hope it'll be the last time too. Windows is shit, the only reason I use it is because all my games work on it.
guys, I have the solution to some of your whines regarding the ship building. To build one (after you power up the system) aim just below the buttons, like on the battery. for example, you want a machine gun? aim above it, on the battery, and press "e". another whine is that you can't get into ships. One word: thruster pack. by the way, whats the password for the asteroid?
After playing at 2 FPS, this is the only map I have that my computer cannot handle. Also, I'm pretty sure the skybox has something to do with that. Where am I properly supposed to put the skybox? Or, how can I increase my FPS?
One word: thruster pack.
agreed after finding a thruster pack I stopping having massive amounts of difficulty getting in the ship. It still take a little effort, but it's no longer an hour long rage educing affair. as for the lag, I don't have a ton of it, but it almost seems random. Some rooms will randomly lag, but other rooms (like the generator, and the bridge) seems like they should lag but don't. It's probably related to what I was doing at the time in those rooms, but it still seemed kind of weird. I like the weird execution tube in the prison though. when I first found the room I thought it was some kind of cyro-chamber, seeing as how the tubes looked kind of like the sleep champers from aliens. I thought that tube was a teleport, and needless to say I was quite surprised when I ended up frying myself in it.
Stupid ship won't blow up, nuked every part of the ship... Twice from both sides and pulled the reactor self destruct thing and nothings happening.
That just opens the reactor vents. You have to shoot those for it to explode.
There may be a few textures missing but this map is still unbelievable!! You've earned my thanks. On another note: is there a way to actually bypass the script slightly so that we can noclip easily? You can noclip around but it's a real bitch to do it. Freelancer, it is possible to get to the asteroid, but like I said: it's a real bitch to noclip there and back. Edit:
Where do i put the skybox folder?
In your materials folder.
Go to the top of the astroid, destroy the panel and do this with cheats on:
ent_fire !picker unlock
while looking at the lever. Then simply press E and you're done!
Go to the top of the astroid, destroy the panel and do this with cheats on:
ent_fire !picker unlock
while looking at the lever. Then simply press E and you're done!
...or spend the time actually figuring out the code :)
Found the code, it's nice to have a lighted asteroid base, I still can't get those door's opened though. And another suggestion about a space suit. I say, you use the suit's shield as 'oxygen' So when you go out into space and have HP for your shields, your shields will go down one every say ten seconds, then once your 'oxygen' is out you start suffocating. I think that's a great idea.
Can anyone send me a filefront link? Rapidshare doesn't like my service provider
This is an excellent idea, indeed. If the person currently working on the map has access to a skilled scripter, or is one, this is a great solution to the problem of breathing in space. Hauling the oxygen tank around is quite hard, as one can't have both the thruster pack and gravgun out at one time.
Can anyone send me a filefront link? Nice job man

That oxygen generator cuts out sometimes too anyways.
