Have you been working on this before the contest? Just wondering.
Nope. Started it today.
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/wip31.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] lol at the square cars
I really like the lighting, looks sci-fi.
Oh crap, fixing.
Cave lightning would be cool though grab the idea before anyone else does!
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/wip31.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] lol at the square cars
Seems very basic... MenteR , you start using your crazy displacement shit and i'll kill you because it's so goddamn awesome
More progress. Less square cars.
Looks nice, just that all of the real detail is in the 3d skybox. Why not add more detail on the regular world?
Looks nice, just that all of the real detail is in the 3d skybox. Why not add more detail on the regular world?
I will now. I'm also going to add blue lights to the hanging buildings so they call more attention.
Alright! Now this is gonna be interesting...

I can see the similarities from yours and Eyefunk's in the Pimpage thread. Looks good!
The door texture looks a little off, but otherwise it's nice.
I can see the similarities from yours and Eyefunk's in the Pimpage thread. Looks good!
Thanks :3:
The door texture looks a little off, but otherwise it's nice.
Yeah, it got misaligned when I rotated the entire building and I didn't notice it was like that until after I took the pictures. It's fixed now, though.
When rotating something, always put on texture lock. Btw, looks great blah!
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/blablabla2.jpg[/img_thumb] More progress. Less square cars.
That looks awesome, I love it! :h:
When rotating something, always put on texture lock. Btw, looks great blah!
Oh wow, didn't even realize that existed, thanks :v:
You're welcome :downs:
There's this facility about 10 minutes from home that has some interesting pictures that might be of use to you guys: http://www.snolab.ca/public/gallery/index.html http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/11/10/dark-matter-snolab-collar.html http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/Scientists+race+find+dark+matter+Canadian+mine/3480080/story.html#Comments It's a clean room environment, which explains the coating of the rocks and the concrete. The facility is used to pick up neutrinos, very interesting stuff.
Oh damn, am I not the only one who lives in Sudbury?
I don't have TOO much yet. I only have the plans for the exterior entrance. Pardon my cramped handwriting in some areas.
Wait so someone else is doing an actual playable map too? Thank god, I thought we were the only ones. WELL LOSE TOGETHER (Since facepunch favors eye candy over playability)
A tower for Eyefunk and I's map.
Oh this looks sexy, I was always bad at making brushes look well, I was more into displacements and envirnoment
Awhile back I had an idea of making an underground bunker themed build map, but it more looked liked a giant warehouse then a bunker, I might give it a second go and see what I can do. And if anyone needs inspiration for cave areas, here's some photos I took when I went caving a few weeks ago:
Wow, that last picture is epic. Also, thanks Netheous :3:
WELL LOSE TOGETHER (Since facepunch favors eye candy over playability)
Playability goes together with eye candy, just in case you don't know. Making a really playable map but making it blocky and ugly won't get you nowhere, no matter how good the gameplay is. So this excuse does not fit well in here. Make it good and playable and your chances to win will be higher. There's no "lose together", if you don't get in the finals, your map doesn't look good enough! And by the way, who said the competition is about playability? As far as I know, it's about ideas of underground stuff, creative ideas, playability isn't even in the rules! It's your fault if you choose to add playability to the map, this WILL give you extra work, but if you do it well, you can make a video of your map and impress everyone! And you might even win just because not only it looks beaultiful, but it's also playable! It's not like adding gameplay to your map will fuck your position on the finals, it won't. That is, if you know how to add it properly. My tip is: get someone who can do really beaultiful stuff; if you're so good at gameplay, well, do the gameplay! This way your duo will be really likely to win the competition, as a video calls a lot more attention than a screenshot!

That's one hell of a spotlight. Also, your fire is floating a tad, but otherwise it looks nice.
That's one hell of a spotlight. Also, your fire is floating a tad, but otherwise it looks nice.
It is not a spotlight, it is the spiritual power that once powered the people who lived here. Jeez get it right :v:
That's one hell of a spotlight. Its a placeholder for now, so it doesnt look very great. Ninja'd

I really want to enter this, and challenge myself at organic environments (so far it's all been urban, pretty much). Could be very useful as some self-development in mapping. Of course, if Robert Briscoe entered this with his remake of Dear Esther, he'd probably win without contest.

Also, how much of it is underground? From what i have seen, very little. Still bits to tweak. Plus, yes, i did have issues getting through the first door. I blame...um...eels.
