I still can't properly work on my map. My main computer is still very wonky and such. I down-graded the BIOS to the version just after the original. FA to FE, then back to FB. Now it runs, with all 6GB of DDR3 memory installed. But I haven't turned it off, since all the problems usually start when I turn it on. (Blue screens, not booting, bad ram allocation.)
Just wondering how many people are making their map work, as in doors, snow storms and exploding parsnips? Just trying to work out if i want to make this vault door work...
I decided I'd team up with ZombieDawgs, currently fixing some of his mistakes and noding the map.

Lower the tree-line cards just ever so slightly. You can see a line ontop of them.

Are you serious? You can't commit like 2 hours every day for the next 6-7 days in an effort to bring your map up to a level good enough to post pictures of? Believe it or not, the deadline is far enough away that you could probably make a whole new map from scratch and release it in that time and do oretty well in the competition, if you just put your mind to it.
A week is plenty of time, trust me. Just give it a shot.

Agree with this. I'm starting now.
I appreciate the encouragement, but I haven't even started on the underground areas of the map(s) I plan on releasing. I posted some WIP images in the Pimpage thread the other day, but I only have the exterior down. I am basically creating a series of maps in the form of a short mod. This contest gave me that last kick of motivation I needed, but I'd rather take my time and release this project at a time of my convienence.

I'm not sure if hammer optimises this when it compiles, but if it doesn't, you should really group the vertices of the brushes like the ones on the far right to the bottom, so the faces are tris and not quads.
There's a good chance that I won't be able to finish before the deadline, I have a wedding to attend this weekend, 5 hours away. I would've done some this week, though I had exams and after studying for hours I don't feel like doing more "work" type tasks.
In any case, I learned some useful stuff about displacements.

Anything in 3d graphics is triangulated, even in 3d software while editing. It'll optimise it fine, but that vault door should be func_detail with an areaportal anyway.
