Damn, after I read about this on Garry's Nigthmare, I came here a bit too hyped just to find major PHAIL!
The maps really looked awesome to the degree to which you managed to complete them, I really wanted to see those maps textured...
Maybe you can cut the original gta2 maps into pieces? That way maybe you could make them work who knows...

I decided to stop where I am at right now (about 1/4) because the brush count comes closer to a count that won't allow me any more brushes when I'm done with the whole city. I'm at about 1600 brushes right now. That's not enough for a great texture variation but at least for multiple layers per house (trims and stuff). I will add beaches around the city and put it into the water (surprise!). Keeping only this part allows me to scale it up by 1.5 so the streets will suit better for vehicles.

The 1.5 scale makes it much better. The streets now have the right size. Even though I get the "Warning: overflowed cclient renderablelist group 7" error when being above the roofs (what I expected from the very beginning) I still get like 60 frames and about 280 when being on the streets.
Edit: Oh wait, it's "Pay 'n Spray" not "Paint 'n Spray".

That's some good starting geometry, you're gonna have to make a lot of textures though.

Could'nt you make the game load up another map when you reach a certain point on the map? Like in half life 2? Or would it use the gmod default loading screen when loading the map, thus breaking the illusion of a full city? If this is true, would you be able to get around this problem by switching the gmod default loading screen with the half life 2 loading screen?

I know this. It uses the gta3.img, But I meant that gta SA may use the gta3 engine but its not gta3.
Unless you confused it with the gta3.img either way it doesnt matter.
