I know I sound retarded, but can someone tell me what a brush is again?
A brush is a convex 3D shape created with Hammer's Block Tool.
Do hint brushes have to touch world geometry? Is it okay to put them in a door frame, so they touch the func_brush door frame and the floor world brush (not touching wall world brushes)?
Do hint brushes have to touch world geometry? Is it okay to put them in a door frame, so they touch the func_brush door frame and the floor world brush (not touching wall world brushes)?
No, but they won't be as effective if you don't know what you are doing.
Quick one for you: I need a good bush texture for a map I'm working on, like the one below from RP_HomeTown1999. Would anyone be able to post a link to one? (Tried Snarkpit and Game Banana, but they didn't seem to have any)
Because it's an invalid brush.
How would one fix this?
Im making a physics map, Wondering what the physics models limits are, I seem to be able to do around twenty six at once before it starts to lag like hell, And how i can increase this number.
How would one fix this?
You have to clip the edges like he did. So it forms two triangles.
Does anyone know how to make good displacements? Like, a mountain cliff. I have no idea how to do it because it becomes so blocky and looks like shit.
Higher power, larger displacement/more sewed displacements.
was wondeing if theres a Tutorial to do this Spot Lightning in Source?

So I got this structure here It's a 24 piece 180 degree arch. There's two here one with merged corners and the other without. However when I compile or save/load this happens Now I know this is because of the same problem as the guy on the page before with his lowered down pavement, but I have no idea how to fix it. I tried splitting each section into two triangles but I couldn't get it right and it just became even more of a problem. Any help? and to the guy above http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/1780
Learn how to make models
It's not aligned properly, hammer can't handle concave brushes
It's not aligned properly, hammer can't handle concave brushes
Everything is on grid and I know that it can't, I just can't find a solution (in hammer) to solve it whilst keeping the same shape.
in that case do this: 1. make an arch 2. make another arch inside that arch hugging the inner vertices 3. sink the inside of the inner arch forming a donut

Why do the broadcast/RT screens in HL2RP maps never show up properly? I'm sure it's a simple reason but I can't actually work out why
Why do the broadcast/RT screens in HL2RP maps never show up properly? I'm sure it's a simple reason but I can't actually work out why
Garry broke them.
EDIT: I see it's fixed in GM13. Excellent!
i tried some light_spot but that doesnt work :/
I'm pretty sure the entity is called point_spotlight Btw, you can use this tutorial http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/1780 :)
Is it possible to create a npc_citizen and make him use a specific model? I just downloaded some suit models, put them into the right directory and changed the model path in the entity properties to one of the suit wearing citizens. It showed up correctly in hammer, but ingame there was a normal looking citizen waiting for me. Why is that?
I'm making a level where at one point I want the player to sit and be restricted from any movement at all. Like the introduction of Half-Life: Opposing Force/the Half-Life 2 intro where Gman is speaking to Gordon. How do I make this happen, I tried looking for tutorials but nothing came up. Example:

Well in the intro to opposing force, the environment is moving. The plane is perfectly still. Have you tried to parent the player to a dummy entity which is parented to the moving object?
Well in the intro to opposing force, the environment is moving. The plane is perfectly still. Any other suggestions are helpful.
i tried some light_spot but that doesnt work :/
I would also like to add that for me, when the point_spotlight is directly inside the model then it will not show up propperly, place the entity a few units infront of the model. About 4 should do it.
Use models?
I suppose I'll have to. I'll look up some tutorials. thanks.
Painted displacement with a blend material and when compiling I get:
The command failed. Windows reported the error: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Ideas?
Painted displacement with a blend material and when compiling I get: Ideas?
Try to hide the displacement by clicking on it, then press H. After that F9 and compile it. I'm not a professional at that problem and I have encountered it various times, but usaly it was due to a bad displacement brush. If you are not feeling sure then you can select the whole map, create it as a prefab and paste the prefab at original position in a new file.
How do you get around the "too many t-junctions to fix up!" error? I've heard it can be done by removing func_details you have, but that only seems to make the number of indices to increase, not decrease.
-snip we good-
