I looked at the Casual Bananas forum, and it doesn't seem like Ruben is at fault. There was some sort of drama in the community or something, and he ended up leaving it. Doesn't seem like Ruben was being immature or anything though. Then again, I really don't know much about the situation, as I'm not a member of the community.
Just some clarification, it was Ruben who let us down and not Casual Bananas. The community itself is not at fault. Edited my original post to clarify.
Alright will fix post in map hire thread.

I couldn't afford the map because of DDoS attacks we had, and an expensive change of servers. After this, I didn't see faith in the community and quit it, and as my mate Excl was abroad, I closed the community. I told them I quit, and it was up to Excl to decide, as this request was made for the community, and not for my own, so don't put the blame on me. I atleast told you what was going on, Excl blocked both of you (Stinger and Hyui) instead of telling you he doesn't have the money to buy the map. It's sad that it went this way, but I simply don't have the money for this, it's business, things can happen. I'm not putting my company in debts because of a map, sorry, if you don't understand that, not my problem. As for "me letting you down", I posted this on behalf of the Casual Bananas Community, as Excl wanted to keep his "good reputation" and "pride" on FacePunch, something he never had in the first place, but meh.

It's that simple. Doesn't matter who's to blame, what the reasons were, we didn't get paid. We were positively insane for entering this deal in the first place, which is why we thought it would easily be fulfilled. It was not, and because you or your community couldn't do your part, we won't do ours.

You shouldn't have hired the two if $200 dollars was enough to put your company in debt. You may call it a "map", but that was hundreds of hours those two put in for you that was never paid for.

We had a buffer that could keep us up for 3 months without any funding, due events this buffer shrunk to the point where we could only afford our office until that contract ends, so there is no money for a map anymore.
There is no misunderstanding, that is exactly what I meant. You guys weren't in the position to promise these guys money.
Alright because I'm getting PM's regarding the blacklisting I want to try and get the whole story. Feel free to correct me where I'm wrong. Cyberuben acting as an owner/leader of Casual Bananas asked for a large island RP map with the intent of paying $200 to anyone who would complete this request. Hiyougami and Stinger21 stepped forward and said they would do it. They made a deal that they would deliver the map within 2 months. For awhile things were going good, then things turned south when the Casual Banana community found out they were going to have fewer funds then expected. While this was going on some internal drama happening at Casual Banana caused Cyberuben to quit the community but stay around to work with the company. Cyberuben did get in touch with Hiyougami and Stinger21 to explain why he couldn't pay them but at this point they were pretty much done. Other people that were part of the community that were in touch with the two mappers closed all communication and pretended it never happened. Because Hiyougami and Stinger21 were so close to being done they decide to publish it on here. Now then what I would like to know from Cyberuben: * How far into the project were they when you realized you wouldn't be able to pay them and did you contact them right away? * Would you/Casual Bananas be willing to pay them the $200 once you get the company straightened out and back on track -------------------------------------------------- I just want to say this is why I strongly urge getting a middleman holding half the money up front in case things like this happen.

I know you can ask for 'donations' which are supposedly non-profit, but the way you put it seems kind of wrong in my mind.
The only thing I'm going to complain about is that neither of them got any warning that casual bananas wouldn't follow through until 3 weeks after the deadline. Stinger worked pretty much nonstop the week before the deadline because he was determined to meet the somewhat ridiculous time constraints. They did professional work for around $0.5 an hour, but nobody was nice enough to mention that the deal was off.

I already told Hiyu I can try to see if I'm still able to pay, though, I quit the community, I'm now working on other projects not related to games or anything else, Excl and the community refuses to pay money for the map because Excl doesnt want to work on a gamemode. They've been doing it for ages, never heard problems about that. Other than that, we started the company because we had to, but it wasn't our intention to run on the community, as in funding. We've got some serious projects in development, some without customers and some with, that have nothing to do with gaming or any kind. And it's never been a secret to any of our members that money is not only used for the servers, it's called "Donate" because that's what all communities name it, so it's familiar for people. Other than that, people still don't buy anything, they get things in reward for helping us to be able to keep our servers up and running, and the money that is left over (buffer + monthly costs) is profit which motivates us to go on (60+ hours a week). [editline]15th August 2013[/editline] Yet I don't understand why I'm getting the full blame for this while I was just the one posting this on behalf of a community I'm no longer part of, because someone else couldn't be bothered to post it because he was worried to "ruin his reputation", but that's probably just me being idiotic.

However
The only thing I'm going to complain about is that neither of them got any warning that casual bananas wouldn't follow through until 3 weeks after the deadline.
that statement really worries me. If this is true I think we need to blacklist the Casual Bananas, it's one thing to run out of money and inform the people you were going to pay that you will no longer be able to so they do not need to spend time on it, it's a completely different thing to just cut communication and not inform them till 3 weeks after deadline.

And for the "3 weeks after deadline", I was in Greece when Hiyu talked to me, I told him to talk to Excl as I was no longer part of the community, and before I quit I told him I was going on vacation and that Excl would be back before I was, none of that is lied. I didn't know if Excl was continuing with the community after I quit so I couldn't answer them if we'd still pay for the map or not, so instead of causing trouble I told them to talk to Excl, as it wasn't my decision, and still isn't. He won't pay for it, I don't have the money nor the reason to, as they publicly released it and I have no use for it.

There's two somewhat separate entities: a company of some sorts and a gaming community. While Ruben is no longer affiliated with the community that wanted the map, he still works with the company which is pursuing unrelated projects.
money that is left over (buffer + monthly costs) is profit which motivates us to go on (60+ hours a week).
Even if you do get donations that surpass your server's monthly upkeep requirement, the surplus should still go to paying the server costs, since that is what the money is originally for.
Off topic from the legal drama here, you should set up a donation paypal hiyougami.
He probably thought he could get the map before the creators asked about payment and just "run away"
I find it suspicious that amazingly he quits the community the DAY that the map is due. I mean, he knew about the map and all. It's not like he wasn't aware that the map was being made.
Great work everybody on this awesome map!
So he earns a profit from his server? Surely he will have enough left over from these profits to pay.
