Frankly you completely undermine your desire to show off how scary a map can be by talking through the whole thing instead of just letting us experience it and providing a little background information.
I wasn't the one who made the video though.
Remember that it's a rather old map - it was a first prototype map, and as such not quite as refined as later ones, but I couldn't find a good video of a more recent horror map of mine and my sound driver's currently fucked so I can't make a good video myself. This map still demonstrates some basic principles of horror mapping, not perfectly, but it does.
Thanks for the input.
Yeah the guy that made the video is a dumbass. "HEY YOU GUYS HEAR THAT?!" no I fucking don't because of your obnoxiously loud voice.

don't say there's an "update" unless you're gonna include screenshots

answer: no
The more lights you put the less scary it looks.
I don't see how this is any scary at all, maybe that blocky, detail-less bell tower is kinda scary.

I know the art style is different from other horror maps I guess that's not welcomed on this website, I didn't really want a common pitch black dark map.
Not everyone is afraid of the dark you know and most of these dark horror maps have no detail to them at all.
Plus they have repetitive a looping sound and only pictures used for scares lol.
Yet this map has scared lots of people I've lost count (if you have even watched the videos) and it's not fully in pitch black darkness omg. :)
Oh and yeah that bell model is made by Valve. :P

People get scared because you've only put jumpscares in there. Your maps isn't even atmospheric.
People won't expect shit to happen because of that so therefor they get scared easier by jumpscares.
This is from one of my test maps that I recreated for another one of my maps. It isn't a horror map, but I wanted to convey a feeling of being somewhat dirty/abandoned. I did this by lighting and props/decals. The small details (like the light being slightly turned as if it fell) make all the difference. The slightest change in lighting changes the atmosphere. ( I'm still a map noob, so I may be blowing smoke, but I think this screenie gets across my point on lighting. )

Something so simple is transformed with lighting and texture work.
p.s Jump scares are the ultimate cop-out. Use them sparingly and with caution.

Needs better lighting man, try shadow_control, and use less area lights, and more spotlights
your brushwork is fine but christ it doesn't need to be so green. the place is way too lit and isn't very scary, plus it's underdetailed. that corpse looks silly too, removes any fear one might have.
You are using content from Half Life 2 for your horror map that doesn't look like it belongs in the Half Life 2 universe. I think that's why it looks so silly.
This was a well-detailed map.
It was supposed to be a hl2 deathmatch map, so I think you guys shouldn't act like it should have less lighting and more darkness.
That would get in the way during multiplayer.
Good job on the map, man. Keep it up!
so he shouldn't advertise is as a "scary halloween map". plenty of deathmatch maps have a horror element to them yet it doesn't interfere with the gameplay.
