I doubt the new engine will even be using BSPs. (I hope not.)
Considering you can use the current hammer to open HL1, HL2 BETA, and all other Source Engine maps, I'm pretty sure we're going to be able to use Source 2's Hammer to port all our current maps if they aren't already compatible.
Crap, I dunno, why is 67thway so freaking common for ttt? It'd be alright if it were just the ground or underground, but it's way too big, and large number of players with ttt is no fun.

Considering that the editor is based heavily off the quake editor, the best guess that i can give is that the new editor for source 2 will be based off the unreal 1 editor.
You really think valve are going to give you a fully integrated editor? You are going to be bitterly disappointed.

What the literal fuck are you blabbering on about?
If they can go from GoldSRC to Source with me able to use the same editor, they'll probably do it again from Source to Source2.
...Unless they build an entirely new engine with no links or references to a previous one so if I want to make a mod or anything for it, it'll be like moving from Source to UDK.

I'm saying that people are saying that i hope source has this, or has that, and you only need to look at the state it is in now to know that if they do a move, it won't be what anyone is hoping for. Hell, it still has carve and hollow. The ultimate point being, expect the worst, and if it is even the tiniest bit improved, then you can be amazed that they found the time to remove carve.

BSP is a format more than 10 years out of date. A logical next step in the improvement of the engine is to move onto more advanced technologies, and no BSPs means no backwards compatibility with Source.

Unless they allow us to import .vmfs in the new editor.
The first proper BSP maps were used for Quake 1... in 1996. Source is efectively the Quake 1 engine with A LOT of modifications and tweaks but there is some unchanged code that has remained the same (player movement physics haven't changed at all to be honest aside from the addition of 'duck' and 'duck jump'). That's just one example, the base lightmap algorythm is the same but it's had things tacced onto it to improve the quality. They even still use MDL files which are really outdated now. All this stuff was outdated in 2000. We are still using nearly 2 decade old code. I really hope all this hush hush at Valve means they have been busy coding a new engine.
Still amazing that we can still pull off things in the souce engine that looks decent. I hope garry decides to make gmod 2 insted of updating it with the new engine. If he updates it with the new engine we will be stuck with 10,000 sandbox servers for a week because everybody has to make new rp maps and or re create their favorite maps again. It would be insane in my opinion.
Because there are three kinds of people who make RP maps:
1) The Noob
- Most probably around 12 or 13 , plays dark rp frequently and has started toying about with hammer. Will usually create a thread for their map with either one or no pictures, most probably in fullbright. Full of optimism, but you may induce a severe aneurysm in the brain after looking at the map for too long. Is mostly likely never completed, or completed and runs like shit
I can testify to this, as I did just this when I was that age.
2) The Pro
Someone very old and experienced will start making a map - it'll be beautiful. Stunning even. However, updates grow far and frequent and eventually go into the abyss that is mapping hell. Maps usually never seen again. See: rp_oviscity2 and rp_luoto
3) The Hipster
They made RP maps such as Oviscity, evocity, c18. Made before DarkRp came about and were generally played with no mods. They played rp "before it was cool". Are now probably looking at apple products and ordering snapbacks rather than mapping.
Honestly. From my experience, this is why. Nothing new is coming out, the new maps are for the most part terrible, the old maps are by far the best, and the people who made them are far away
I have no idea but that was the perfect map for this gamemode.

Well that's true, yeah; although, converting from the VMF structure to models might prove to be a pain in the ass with all the extra stuff.
Well i have seen good maps like littletown its amazing but again no one would join it.

There's a wonderful VBSP edit that spits out .mdl and .qc files that I use quite regularly to detail my maps.
I don't think it should be terribly difficult.

Keep in mind that it's not just the geometry that needs to be ported. Again, depending on how the new model structure (which, by the way, is much more advanced than MDLs and has almost nothing to do with them) will work, it may be more or less difficult to import VMFs into the new Hammer.
Too be honest, it saves me having to download a new map.
Don't think anyone actually takes notice of the beautiful scenery within maps. In the end of the day, they are going to be way too occupied with other players, RP dialogs or their money and personal achievements within the gamemodes of DarkRP, PERP and so forth. Which is why people are not very keen on downloading and exploring new maps. I usually go for Downtown because I know what to expect.
I do have a big folder of other maps on my local server, just for coding. As I love to be in for example gm_tropics listening to the birds keeping me calm as my code fails once again. Saves me from buying new keyboards all the time.

Thanks. :)
I prefer Downtown_V4C_v2. It's just really small yet offers allot of space. I liked Townsend too, just for the beach.
People will move on to a newer and better Downtown most likely in the future. There will never just be one map. People like to change it up every now and then. Downtown is popular because it's close not too spread out but not too suffocating as well. This is just how i see it, but everyone will have their own view on it.
