• Hey, would you guys be interested in a quality controlled Source map site?

Sounds like a great idea, great designed maps should have their own spotlight out of the grave some of them are in, especially gmod ones.
Nice idea, but why split great maps from new users ? In my opinion, gamebanana have a good amount of maps in their database, when you're searching for nice maps, you can simple mark the search box for "top rated any time" and it will show only top rated maps by the users. csgo top rated maps for example: http://csgo.gamebanana.com/maps?mid=SubmissionsList&vl[sort]=desc&vl[order]=rating&vl[filters][age]=all By making a site for only good maps, you're forgetting those days when you made a fullbright map, impossible to walk because everything was water in Valve Hammer Editor 3.4 :x This is my opinion of course, for a positive side, it'll be nice to have "gallery" site for only superb maps. 1. You can make the site like a huge gallery, the main page shows the most rated maps, and each user have it's own gallery, as a portfolio but only for source maps. 2. When uploading a new map, a check box for sending it is necessary, like: "Is it fullbright ?" "Yes" "No" "What is fullbright?" Yes = 1337 Error GTFO Go read some tutorials [link] No = The administration will review your map and it will be avaliable soon. What is fullbright ? = Send a crash message to %system% and make it give a blue screen xD
Why especially gmod ones?
Cause they seem to have the more burried and old ones I think, not really sure. There are a lot of maps out there.
Not really, every game has plenty of old and buried maps out there. There should not be any bias for the game the map was made for.
I hope this works out. Perhaps you could speak to some of the mainsteam mappers and get exclusive maps on your page. Or make their accounts verifyed so that we can filter on official uploaders.

It's way too forgiving and a lot of bad content makes it to the top rated. Ever take a gander at the CS:S map section? There's quite a few boxy badly lit maps that are top-rated. I'm not saying that's necessarily always a bad thing - a lot of maps I've enjoyed playing in the past were terrible looking but fun to play. I'm not a very good mapper myself, and as stated before I'm not looking to provide an elitist circlejerk site. If someone sends me a bad map I'm going to point them to tell them what they did wrong and point them to some tutorial sites. I'm not just going to reply with, "sux" and just waltz away unless it's very clear they're trolling.
"Is it fullbright ?" "Yes" "No" "What is fullbright?" I've been very impressed with pretty much every Source engine game out there, and there's some old maps that I've come across that are seriously underrated and unheard of.

We have already huge and nice forums around to publish and host our maps, it really need a gallery/site to show only good maps ? hall of fame ? what's it ?
That's nice of your part, but why making a whole new website, just to host beautiful maps, when we can make a simple thread here, using same ol' hosting companies ?
Because a lot of maps posted here or on gamebanana or most other places, with the honorable exception of Interlopers, aren't that great. Post your new and bad maps up for download here or wherever, get better, repeat process, then when it's amazing, we'll be able to find it in one spot instead of having to dig though all of the other worse maps.
Turns out my host isn't cool with user uploads and in general I feel like server uploads are asking for trouble. (I'm no expert in securing the server for uploads.) I don't think it's much of a problem, I just wasn't expecting it. Time to figure out how else to get maps sent in! Would you guys be absolutely horribly opposed to just sending in a link to your map along with info about it? It wouldn't be the first time I've seen it on a site.
http://dotbsp.com/submit If you guys want to start sending in maps, I'd appreciate it. I don't like using content without asking. Right now I'm testing a lot of stuff and I'm about to start working on the Search function for maps.
You should setup a workshop collection page that you can link to on your site for those who use it. That way you don't have to worry about people getting upset for uploading their work to your site.
Loving the logo, this site has potential to get big.
Could you make the banner at the top fade into pictures of random maps? rather than just cycling between those 3 images.
Can we submit a map besides our's (just for archiving purposes, perhaps not for juding) or would you rather it be only ones we've created? Also, you should host mapping tutorials on the website.

And I don't see the point in hosting tutorials when there's plenty of other sites that host a lot of good ones already, seems like a waste of resources.
He made it sound like more of an archive than a place to submit your own maps.
I get that, but it's dick to upload someone else's work, regardless of the context.
I get that, but it's dick to upload someone else's work, regardless of the context.
I think crediting and linking the creator would be enough and if he doesn't want his map to stay there he could just contact the admin and let it get removed.
It would probably be acceptable if the authors map is already uploaded somewhere else, since they have already released it to the public.
That's what I was saying; by giving proper credits. I wouldn't just upload a map without giving any credits or stealing the credit for myself. I think maps should also be categorized by if they're made by the user that submitted it or if it was just reuploaded. Perhaps an tagging system?
Well, hey, I'm down for using maps from other people - I'll just contact them to let them know I'm putting them up on the site.
I know we already have SFMbox, but a SFM section could be nice. It would be a place to stick maps that get submitted that are either designed for filmmaking or just look nice but don't play well. Also the person who hosts SFMbox actually uses a Mediafire pro account. He told me it's 50$ a year for unlimited bandwith, files, and direct links. So that might be something to think about.

I was thinking of a suggestion of using basic tags to describe maybe what the map features. Say, Trainconstruct would have these kind of tags: Trains, Tracks, Construct, Large, River Just the little things. Perhaps have someone go through the maps and add appropriate tags. But they should be the same at least on a basic level. I think the most basic tags should be "Small, Medium, Large" for map sizes. Just take a wild guess at the size I figure. Probably a bad idea, but an idea nonetheless.
Congrats to the author that got his map first on the website.

The first dropdown menu will search by game, and the second one will search by size. So if you wanted to find de_wanda, you could use the first dropdown menu to go to Counter-Strike: Source, the second dropdown menu to select Large, and type in "wanda bomb/defusal".

I think the workshop uses a tagging system where you select appropiate tags for your content. So something like that would be good.

If you select campaign as the only tag I count about 16 non map uploads on the first page alone.
